Here’s how to keep your PS5 clean without jeopardizing the warranty.

The PlayStation 5 is an expensive piece of technology that you should ideally keep for a long time. But to ensure that, it’s not enough to put them in the corner and not throw the controller at them when acknowledging rage, you also have to keep the console clean – and regularly. Dust and dirt can shorten the life of your console.

This is how you clean the fans, housing and co. of your PS5

ZFirst of all, a safety note: If you want to clean your PS5, be sure to unplug it first to be on the safe side.

  • How often do you have to clean the PS5? That depends on how dusty the environment it is used in and whether it can stand free. However, if it gets louder than usual during operation, it may need to be cleaned.
  • This is what you need as a PS5 cleaning kit: A clean microfiber cloth and a vacuum cleaner, with a cleaning attachment if necessary.

Clean the fan

The fan is one of the places where dirt and dust collects the most. And this is also where it is most dangerous, because it can clog the fan so that it can no longer provide sufficient cooling capacity. It is important that you do not push the deposits into the fan when cleaning, so do not use a compressor but a vacuum cleaner. There are two ways to clean the fan:

  • Empty dust chambers under the side wings: The PS5 has special dust collectors, to get to it you have to remove the side panel – don’t worry, it won’t void your PS5’s warranty. To do this, simply lift the corner with the PS5 logo and then slide the panel down. How exactly does it work we explain to you here. In the following picture you can find the two holes that serve as the dust chambers of the console. You can carefully vacuum them off with a vacuum cleaner on the lowest level (or with a cleaning attachment if you don’t have levels):

  • Clean PS5 from the outside: If it is just a small cleaning, you can also vacuum the fan from the outside with a vacuum cleaner. But be sure to choose the lowest level (or an attachment) and be careful not to touch the console directly.

A tip to keep the PS5 clean: If possible, leave your PS5 free so that the air can circulate better and not so much dust collects in the first place. A dirty fan not only damages your PS5, but can also look pretty disgusting:

Clean the case

If you just want to remove light dirt from the case, it’s best to use a dry microfiber cloth. Make sure the cloth is free of residue, as even the tiniest grain can scratch the surface of your console. You can also keep other accessories such as the DualSense charging station, your headset, camera and the BluRay discs themselves clean in this way.

If you want to clean your controller, we have instructions for you here:

Clean PS4 or Xbox One controller properly – Here’s how

Remove stubborn dirt on the PS5

If you have grease, adhesive residue or other dirt on the console or controller that cannot be removed with a dry microfiber cloth, you can use isopropanol. With a microfiber cloth or Q-tip you can apply a 70 percent solution of the rubbing alcohol. Just be careful if you have stickers on your devices, because they will also be removed by the alcohol.
