The 5 strongest heroes in Overwatch 2 you should play in the beta

Overwatch 2 Doomfist

The Overwatch 2 beta has officially started. Starting tonight, April 27th, many more people can join thanks to Twitch Drops. MeinMMO tells you which 5 heroes are already dominating the matches.

Overwatch 2 has launched in beta. Fans of the first part will see many familiar faces, maps and mechanics. But with only 5 players per team and a much faster and deadlier gameplay, you have to completely rethink many old strategies.

With 32 playable characters (including a new DPS heroine), there’s plenty to choose from too. That’s why we tell you which 5 heroes you should definitely play in the Overwatch 2 beta. Because whether alone or in a full team – these characters make a really strong impression early in the beta.

How can I play the beta? If you got access via registration, you can gamble since yesterday evening. But you can still get guaranteed access through Twitch streams. This requires watching Overwatch 2 streams for 4 hours between April 27 at 7:00 p.m. and April 28 at 3:00 a.m. You can find out exactly what you have to consider here:

5 characters currently dominate the Overwatch 2 Beta

You can build a whole team with these 5 heroes in Overwatch 2, but it’s not a must. With much faster gameplay and changes to skills, maps, and game modes, all heroes are much more self-sufficient. Individual shooter skills are also much more important in Overwatch 2 than in the first part, while strict team play plays a much smaller role.

We chose these heroes because they are already popular with beta players and appear in almost every match. They are also very popular with streamers and YouTubers such as YourOverwatch, Stylosa or emongg.

Here you can find out what makes the heroes so good in their roles.

Tank: Doomfist

No, that’s not a bug – the much hated DPS Doomfist is a tank in Overwatch 2. This is also related to some changes.

  • Doomfist now has significantly more health – 450 hitpoints instead of 250.
  • His uppercut was replaced with the “Power Block”. This is a type of shield that reduces damage from frontal attacks by 90%.
  • The more damage you stop with the Power Block, the more powerful your Rocket Punch attack becomes.
  • All other abilities have been adjusted so that Doomfist is faster but does less damage.

Doomfist is an annoying new tank – and therefore very powerful

In his new role, Doomfist is more of a nuisance fly than a deadly wasp – he flies around and draws a lot of attention without killing enemies outright. He is comparable to Winston, who breaks through the opposing lines in short intervals.

And if you’re momentarily distracted by Overwatch 2’s fast-paced gameplay, you’ll quickly get killed. For example from the next character.

DPS 1: Soldier 76

Soldier 76 was always intended as a kind of Swiss army knife for DPS heroes. With an auto rifle, a sprint function, and a healing field, this soldier is good at a lot of everything, but nothing really good.

It is precisely this versatility that makes him so incredibly strong in Overwatch 2. Because aiming and shooter skills are much more important than in the first part, its simple style is incredibly effective. With a grenade from his weapon and a few head hits, enemy damage dealers and supports die in a few seconds.

Soldier 76 is the all-purpose weapon that can do everything

In addition, he can run away with his other skills, heal himself and make enemies hell from new positions. The new passive ability of all DPS characters, which makes you 10% faster, also appears here. This effectiveness is garnished by his strong aimbot ultimate, which takes over the aiming for you.

Soldier 76 is currently one of the best heroes in the game and can be used effectively by almost any player. This makes him almost indispensable on a team in Overwatch 2.

DPS 2: Bastion

Bastion was a fearsome presence back in the Overwatch 1 beta. Thanks to new abilities, this also applies to the Overwatch 2 beta.

  • Bastion’s self-heal has been removed.
  • Instead, he can now move while in his Turret Form, similar to his Ultimate from Overwatch 1. However, this form now has a cooldown.
  • He also has a new alternate fire mode: a grenade that ricochets off walls and explodes on contact with an enemy.
  • His new ultimate turns him into an artillery piece, allowing him to fire 3 explosive charges into a zone like a mortar.

Bastion dominates an Overwatch Beta (again).

So with the new mobility, Bastion has become more flexible, but also requires a little more finesse with ability timing. However, its raw DPS potential has only grown – its unstoppable, fully automatic fire has only gotten more dangerous on the move. Because his previous counters like Cassidy have also lost their stun abilities, Bastion can decimate opponents even more carelessly than before.

Support 1: Lucio

who Overwatch experts like Stylosa listens, quickly realizes that Lucio is very popular with people like him. This support with a feel for funky grooves shines in particular thanks to his agility and the speed he gives his team.

Due to the insanely fast gameplay in Overwatch 2, any form of mobility in matches is worth its weight in gold. Lucio, as mobility personified, is therefore fully convincing. Heroes like Reinhardt who are struggling to keep up suddenly become very strong thanks to Lucio.

Lucio is incredibly important thanks to high speed

Additionally, Lucio has no problem staying alive. With his high mobility, healing music and the new passive healing of all support characters, he can survive for a very long time and very effectively. So he not only helps his team a lot, but can also distract and keep the opponents sufficiently busy. This in turn makes it easier for your own team to collect important kills.

Support 2: Moira

Moira is once again a support in Overwatch 2, who often does the most healing as well as the most damage on the team. Now that the gameplay is generally faster, her fade skill is incredibly good. With this ability, she can flee quickly and completely unscathed when the going gets tough – or blast right into the middle of her own team to heal everyone up.

Similar to Lucio, Moira is difficult to kill, but her high damage potential allows her to take advantage of Overwatch 2’s lower time-to-kill and use aggression to win the match.

Overwatch 2 Moira
Moira is strong whether she’s healing or dealing damage.

As with Bastion, her strongest counters from Part 1 in Overwatch 2 lack the abilities that made her so dangerous to Moira. Thus, she can simultaneously be a greater threat to the opposing team and a greater help to your own.

So much for the best heroes in the Overwatch 2 beta. If you want to know what else is coming in the beta, what new maps are coming, and how the newest game mode, Push, works, you can find the info here:
