One of the most famous MMOs of your school days is coming to Android and iOS soon

OGame is one of the most well-known names in MMOs. This is probably due to the fact that pretty much everyone used to have access to it, even with crappy computers. The game has now been around for 20 years and the developers have plans for the future: an extension and implementation for mobile.

What kind of game is this? OGame is actually a classic Free2Play browser game with a chic sci-fi flair. You start with a single planet, which you slowly expand and expand throughout the galaxy.

More and more planets fall under your rule, you expand your economy and your military. Alone or in a clan (“Alliance”) you then work to slowly get the galaxy under your control.

OGame and its ilk do not have a particularly high graphical standard. You plan your next steps primarily through clicks and numbers. Certain benefits can be purchased for real money.

Roughly one can say: OGame is more of an economic simulation in which you have to plan your empire as well as possible and defend it against hundreds of other players in your galaxy. Incidentally, it was created solely by the German developer Alexander Rösner aka “Legor”. Today a whole team from the provider Gameforge in Karlsruhe is working on it.

5 Old MMORPGs That Are Still Actively Played

What makes it so special? OGame is one of the first browser games of its kind and has been running non-stop for 20 years. Since it runs in the Internet browser and hardly consumes any computing power, even players with poor hardware can take part without any problems.

The great specialty that OGame is known for are the attacks. You can see when someone is attacking you and, with the right timing, you can prevent an absolute military force from destroying your entire fleet.

Anyone in their 30s today might still remember: Dozens of students set their alarm clocks so that they would be awake at 4:38 a.m. to bring their fleet to safety or to fly an attack. Did you catch up on sleep in math class…

In between, new “worlds” with special rules were opened up again and again – for example with higher production rates or faster gameplay. This provided variety and a breath of fresh air. Now the developers have even bigger plans.
