What about Blue Protocol, the great MMORPG hope from Japan, in 2022?

Blue Protocol is a new anime MMOPRG that has been eagerly awaited by many gamers. The reason for this is the strong PvE focus and the action-packed fights. But nothing has been heard from the game for a long time. Where does the MMORPG stand in April 2022?

What kind of game is this? Blue Protocol will be a theme park MMORPG by Bandai Namco. It focuses on PvE content and a story around time travel. Because you are fleeing 1,000 years in the past to prevent a catastrophe and save the world.

• You can choose from five different classes when creating your character. The Heavy Smasher was announced as the newest class in June 2021.
• The game world is divided into hubs and cities for up to 200 players at the same time and instanced areas for about 30 players. So the system is more reminiscent of Guild Wars 2, where there is a loading screen for each area.
• You can expect many quests and a great focus on the story.
• Blue Protocol’s combat system is very action-packed. You have to actively target targets, dodge enemy attacks and only have a few special attacks.
• Monsters in play do not drop equipment. You have to make these yourself through crafting.
• In PvE you can expect solo instances and dungeons for up to 6 players. Raids should also be planned.
• The game does not use direct PvP, but lets you compete against each other in PvE rankings.

When is Blue Protocol coming out? The game entered a beta in Japan in 2020, but it was closed again in December. A release was originally planned for 2021 in Japan and should later take place worldwide. But since then, the game has been suspiciously quiet. There is currently no official release date.

Blue Protocol has been quiet for a long time, but there is hope again

How did Blue Protocol evolve after the beta? At the end of 2020, the developers revealed that they wanted to overhaul Blue Protocol’s combat system again. The animations, dynamics, dodging and hit feedback should be improved. Many then hoped that Blue Protocol could be released in Japan and possibly even worldwide in 2021.

But the conclusion about the beta at the end of 2020 is the last news that Bandai Namco has published on the official Japanese website of Blue Protocol.

In 2021 there was a statement from Smilegate, the developer of Lost Ark, that they will distribute Blue Protocol in Korea (via BlueProtocolDB). That, and an August 25, 2021 job posting for new developers for Blue Protocol, was pretty much all that happened in the entire year surrounding the MMORPG.

Speculations circulated that Blue Protocol’s developers were overwhelmed, overextended, or that the game might even be discontinued. At least it doesn’t look like that anymore.

What’s new now? New job interviews for the development of Blue Protocol and the shooter Gundam Evolution by Bandai Namco have been announced for April/May 2022. It is striking that new people are being sought for almost every area, including programmers, designers, artists and game planners (via YouTube).

So the development of Blue Protocol appears to be continuing, although it is unclear how long players will have to wait for a release. Because no statement has been made about this so far.

There is also no new gameplay or insights into the development.

Worldwide release is likely but not confirmed

Is Blue Protocol even coming to us? There is no official statement about a global release yet. According to official information, Blue Protocol is to appear for the Japanese market.

However, localization managers for the English language have already been sought in the past and a deal has been made with Smilegate for the Korean market. This indicates that Bandai Namco also wants to bring their game to a larger market.
