5 things you should know before the release of Diablo Immortal

Diablo Immortal Shadows take the crown

The new Diablo Immortal will soon be launched on PC, Android and iOS. MeinMMO tells you how the new representative of the famous ARPG series differs from its predecessors and what you are getting into.

What is Diablo Immortal anyway? The latest Diablo part has been known since 2018 and will be developed even longer. Originally planned as a pure mobile offshoot, it is now known that the PC will also be offered as a platform.

As usual from Diablo, you play in an isometric perspective (“obliquely from above”) and control your hero in the fight against hordes of undead and demons. Unlike before, however, you will find a lot of group content, although you can experience most of it as a solo player as well.

Diablo Immortal will be released on June 2, 2022 for Android and iOS and, quite surprisingly, also for PC. To give you a better picture of the game, here are some of Diablo Immortal’s most important content and features.

We have included the trailer for the release announcement here for you:

1. Groups are more important than ever

Diablo Immortal relies heavily on social content. Pretty much everything you find in the endgame requires a party or is at least extremely difficult solo:

Ideally, you should look around for a guild to join while leveling up. In addition, you will always find players in the social hubs of the world with whom you can interact or complete tasks.

With “Warbands” consisting of up to 8 players, you can already see most of the content while being in a smaller, more family environment of friends. However, if you want to see “everything”, you need a guild.

2. Dungeons, Raids and PvP – Real MMO content

Already in the announcement it was said that Immortal should be the “biggest Diablo so far”. According to previous information, the group content mentioned also makes up a large part of Diablo Immortal.

So far we know of 7 dungeons in the game, all of which come with their own monsters and bosses. A run takes around 10-15 minutes and they serve as an efficient source of coveted loot.

So far we only know two notable raids: the Treasury (for Shadows) and Kion’s Torture (for Immortals). In the latter, 4 groups of 12 players fight 4 bosses at the same time, with all other bosses getting stronger when one of them dies.

Diablo Immortal Shadows take the crown
The fight for the crown is the pinnacle of the Diablo Immortal endgame.

The biggest known feature so far is PvP, the Cycle of Strife. Here the best guilds fight for dominance on the server every week. In several rounds and battles, the “shadows” try to overthrow the reigning “Immortals”:

  • in 10 battles with 8vs8 players, the shadows qualify
  • if they win at least half of the battles, they can challenge the leaders of the Immortals
  • in a 30 vs. 1 battle, the shadows join forces against a player who becomes a real raid boss with special abilities for this battle
  • if the shadows win, they decide in a battle royale who will be the new ruler

In the beta so far, only the best players could see this mode. However, the Cycle of Strife should be revised again before the release. As soon as we know more about it, you will find out the details here on MeinMMO.

However, Diablo also has a campaign. This is not missing in Immortal either. It is divided into 8 zones and thus apparently larger than the 5 files that are usually known from Diablo.

The story itself is said to last about 10 hours, but will be extended by level requirements for the zones. You can grind through bounties and rifts, both solo and in a group.

The bosses of Diablo Immortal have already given us more information about the content in an interview:

Diablo Immortal bosses say “Diablo Immortal is a big and ambitious MMO”

By the way: Diablo Immortal is historically set after Part 2 and before Part 3. Anyone interested in the story can get a bit of background here on what happened between the two parts.

3. Immortal is a mobile game that will also appear on PC

Blizzard apparently bitterly regretted the decision to only bring Diablo Immortal to mobile. That’s why it’s now coming to PC. But even if you’re playing Diablo Immortal on PC, you should keep in mind that the game was originally created for mobile.

We haven’t been able to play and test the PC version yet, but there is already some information about the implementation.

On the one hand, a WASD control is to be aimed for on the PC, which has not previously existed in Diablo. Information is lacking, but Immortal will probably play similar to Lost Ark on PC. Controllers are also supported.

On the other hand, there will be cross-progression as well as the possibility of cross-saving. So PC and mobile gamers are playing together and if you use both platforms, you can simply continue playing your characters on the go or at home.

Visually, Diablo Immortal is extremely pretty on mobile. However, it remains to be seen whether the high resolution will also do well on larger screens. In our post you can already find the system requirements for Diablo Immortal on PC.

4. Diablo Immortal is Free2Play but has a shop

You will not have to pay anything to play Diablo Immortal, the game is completely Free2Play. According to current information, the game should be financed via a shop and a Battle Pass, which offers a free and a paid path.

There were already concerns in advance that Diablo Immortal was purely Pay2Win. Some fans even calculated that it should take 40 years to get the most powerful items if you don’t pay. In the shop there were certain boosters and items to buy.

The shop was one of the biggest criticisms of the beta and according to the developers it is getting an overhaul. What exactly is changing and what you can really buy in the end has not yet been revealed to us.

However, the veterans of the beta already said that even in the old state of the shop, no purchase was necessary. Some of the Free2Play players could have easily kept up with paying customers.

Only those who want to improve the last few fractions of a percentage would have needed purchased items. However, this is only relevant for very few players. If you just want to play, you can do that without paying – and still get to see all the content.

Diablo Immortal slows down frequent players so that casuals still have a fair chance in the endgame

5. Classes are not “fixed”, but it’s not always possible to change classes

Diablo Immortal offers 6 classes with unique abilities at launch. You decide on one of the classes when creating the character and then play it up. However, you are not bound by the choice.

You can choose to switch classes later in the game without having to start a new character. This should not work arbitrarily and always, but should always be possible at certain points.

In addition, the change will only come into play later. So choose your starting class wisely and see the change as an opportunity to try something new later without having to level again.

Diablo Immortal will continue to evolve as a service game over the coming years. New classes are also conceivable and one candidate has even been found in the data: a vampire knight.

The changes are also a welcome opportunity for this to view new content. However, which classes will come exactly and when that will happen is still open.

Likewise, we don’t yet know exactly how much content will come and at what intervals it will appear. The devs have previously spoken of expansions for the game, but with no specs. You can find more about Diablo Immortal and the content in our overview:
