A poison wall was accidentally installed in Elden Ring and this is how it happened

After the resilient secret wall comes the poison wall - and both are arguably unintentional.

The Between Lands and its Mysterious Walls – Some time ago, a secret wall that could be destroyed with an enormous number of attacks caused an uproar. But did you know that there is also a poison wall in Elden Ring? It is located at Villa Vulkan and looks like a normal rock face. Anyone standing next to it, however, will be poisoned. Oh man, after poison swamps now also poison walls? Fortunately not.

Poison Wall is a bug

It’s all about this: What would we do without dataminer Zullie the Witch? At least we would learn less about what’s hiding in the Elden Ring game files. Zullie also gives us an explanation for the phenomenon of the mysterious wall of poison. It is – like the particularly resistant secret wall – a bug.

Actually, we could assume that this is an intended effect. It’s all about Poison, after all, and FromSoftware obviously likes to plague us with this status effect. But according to Zullie, the problem is an incorrectly assigned “hit material”.

More on Elden Ring:

Wrong “hit material” is to blame: Hit material is basically assigned to every surface and, on the one hand, lets the game know on which surface we are moving in order to generate the right footfall noises. These sound different on stone than on earth. But, as Zullie explains, the hit material not only defines the soundscape, but also determines whether we receive damage type like fire damage.

When we run through the type of terrain that all Souls fans “like best”, namely a poison swamp, the hit material ensures that our poison bar builds up. This is because the green broth is assigned “Hit Material 25”, which is what creates the effect.

Exactly this is also assigned to the wall: a mistake, as Zullie explains. After all, the whole thing makes no sense and really seems completely arbitrary. This bug should be fairly easy to fix though.

Have you already encountered the poison wall and what would you think of poison walls in addition to the nasty swamps?
