Leak reveals failed shooter could be coming to Xbox Game Pass

A new leak from the Polish Xbox store suggests that the shooter Battlefield 2042 could be coming to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate soon.

It’s about this leak: The Polish side xgp.pl posted a screenshot from the Xbox game store showing the Battlefield 2042 game product page. Also visible in the picture is the small “Game Pass” icon.

It signals that the shooter will be available on Xbox’s popular subscription service. This is currently not the case, which is why this is either an error or a leak. However, the trend is currently more in the direction of leaks.

Similar glitches happened with the games Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and Resident Evil Village, both of which actually ended up in Xbox Game Pass.

So the guess is that Battlefield 2042 will be available through EA Play in the Ultimate version of Game Pass.

When is that supposed to happen? Battlefield 2042 is said to be playable via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate as early as May 5th, next week.

As with all leaks, the rule applies here: use with caution. There is no official confirmation that Battlefield 2042 will actually be available in the pass.

Bad release and bad communication ruined the game

These were the problems of Battlefield 2042: Since its release on November 21, the shooter has had to struggle with massive performance problems and falling player numbers. The launch was very bumpy with connection problems and error messages.

Insider leaks about EA’s internal management communications about the game painted a bizarre picture of relativizing one’s own guilt. The news about issues and player complaints didn’t stop after the release:

It went so far that its predecessor, Battlefield V, loud the statistics page Steamcharts has seven times the number of players of 2042.

  • Battlefield V has 20,330 players in the last 24 hours
  • Battlefield 2042 only has 3,203 active players.

EA itself openly admitted during an earnings call in February 2022 that Battlefield 2042 had failed and “didn’t live up to expectations”. There were even rumors that the shooter could become Free2Play.

Now EA seems to have found another “solution”. If the Polish leak is true and the game ends up in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, it would open up the game to a large group of players.

Meanwhile, many remaining players aren’t thrilled:
