One of the first big German Let's Players stops - "A childhood legend leaves YouTube"

Manuel “GermanLetsPlay” B., GLP for short, is known to most people who have dealt with German Let’s Plays. GLP has been regularly uploading videos to YouTube since 2010, but has now announced that he will be leaving the platform indefinitely.

GLP has always been one of the biggest gaming YouTubers in Germany. Considering the number of subscriptions, only well-known YouTubers Paluten and Gronkh are ahead of him.

Why is GermanLetsPlay leaving YouTube?

  • The YouTuber has had severe health problems for the past 10 years, with pain.
  • He went to the doctor and the hospital, who then diagnosed him with diseases of the intestines and liver. GLP should be one ulcerative colitis and the deadly disease primary sclerosing cholangitis to have.
  • He lived with the diagnoses and the associated medication for many years until they turned out to be wrong.
  • To this day, doctors say that GLP has some disease in the intestines and liver, but no one knows exactly what it is. The YouTuber is leaving the platform so he can take care of his body.

Will GLP ever come back? The YouTuber keeps that open. He’s not averse to checking back in for major updates to Minecraft or other games, but it’s uncertain whether he’ll ever be as active in uploading videos again.

Community is sad, wishes GLP only the best

What do his viewers and colleagues say? They wish the Let’s Player all the best and much success. Many tell of their experiences with the YouTuber and that he has been with them since they were children.

We have summarized some statements that were under the video:

  • Ms_Momo thanks him: “Always one of the silent viewers, but now a thank you is needed. I’ve been watching your videos since around 2013 and I can’t tell you how many times I came home after school and was able to switch off thanks to your videos. Whether it’s everyday stress or family drama, you could just dive into your videos and forget. (…) Thank you very much for the beautiful, fun time, good luck for everything that is still to come and all the best on your further path!“
  • Philipp Denk writes: “A childhood legend is leaving YouTube for an indefinite period. I never missed a video and at school the main topic was you and Palette, but everything has to come to an end. I wish you all the best for your future and thank you for letting me grow up with you.”
  • Walker 421 says: “You’re a German YouTube legend. You shaped YT-DE like no other. Thank you for everything.”
  • YouTuber and streamer rewinside says: “I wish you lots of love and strength.”

Also, some viewers share similar stories with misdiagnosis and doctors, they can understand that GLP wants to remove from YouTube.

The success story of the man behind the mask – GermanLetsPlay

In 2010, GermanLetsPlay uploaded its first Let’s Play to The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. He hardly spoke in the videos and not at all in the first part. He was too shy and reserved.

Over the years, however, he became more and more self-confident and even uploaded comedy sketches from real life, but they have now been deleted. Otherwise he does not reveal as much about himself and his private life as other YouTubers.

Even his face remains a mystery to this day. For this, GermanLetsPlay has its iconic mascot with a blue and black striped jacket and a white mask, which is supposed to represent himself.

GLP doesn’t play specific games, just everything. Whether Sims, simulators, Minecraft or Super Mario – he manages to entertain the viewers with all videos, his humor and gameplay.

Otherwise he plays a lot with other well-known gaming YouTubers like Zombey, Maudado or Paluten. Staying true to his style for over a decade, he has amassed over 3.65 million subscribers to date. He was also one of the first German YouTubers to do Let’s Plays at all.

Many have been there since the beginning or many years and grew up with the 30-year-old. EnglishLetsPlay shaped her childhood and preferred his videos to typical children’s or anime series. He himself said in his video: “I was allowed to be for many people what Dragon Ball was for me at the time.” He will never have such great success again in his life.
