Innovation finally makes fans of Battlefield 2042 happy again – nothing has changed in the gameplay

Battlefield 2042 has been struggling with bad news, few players and a miserable mood in the community since its release. But a small innovation makes the fans happy for the first time in months. Nothing changes in the gameplay.

The controversial shooter Battlefield 2042, which in the eyes of many has already failed, is currently trying to get back on its feet. The biggest patch so far, 4.0, came out a few weeks ago and brought not only useful improvements but also hated changes.

So far it hasn’t brought much. The community continues to view the shooter critically, and the number of players on Steam has also not been able to recover, and continues to languish with less than 2,000 active players. According to leaks, the shooter could now try to reach a new audience thanks to Game Pass.

It is all the more surprising that a comparatively meaningless innovation is really well received by the community. Probably the most popular news for months is a simple helmet for the unpopular specialist Navin Rao.

In our podcast we talk about the failure of Battlefield 2042:

What’s new? For some time now, Battlefield 2042 has had weekly missions that allow you to unlock a new skin every week.

With this week’s mission you can unlock the epic “Balidan” helmet for the specialist Rao. This completely covers the face of the specialist, making the soldier look almost exactly like a character on Battlefield 4.

To unlock the helmet, you must do the following things:

  • Earn 3 Spotter Medals.
  • Defeat 20 enemies and vehicles.
  • Capture or neutralize 10 Objectives.

Fans mostly celebrate the skin, but others speak of a “shame”

What is the community saying? Although this is a comparatively small innovation, the community is actually quite euphoric. The fact that a soldier in the military shooter can now look like a classic soldier obviously makes the fans very happy.

That’s how you find it subreddit from Battlefield 2042 praised posts with titles like “Finally a real Battlefield skin” and “Look how good this looks! This is Battlefield.” These have thousands of upvotes:

The users in the comments see it in a similarly positive way:

  • “This looks like the Russian attacker from Battlefield 4. That’s a good cosmetic improvement” – caballo_vago27
  • “The only reason I don’t like this is because it reminds me of how classes should have been” – Grove Knight

Are there dissenting votes? But not all voices are positive. Users like n1weaponizedautism accuse the community of being far too easily blinded by such superficialities:

Imagine we’ve had the game for 6 months and there are no real content updates apart from little skins for the crappy specialists that most people don’t want in Battlefield.

And some people are clapping their hands and calling those pathetic cosmetic updates “this is Battlefield.” How goddamn low have our “brutal” expectations gotten? It’s such a shame and there’s still no roadmap.

So far, the skins from the weekly missions have attracted little attention. But this realistic-looking helmet has probably made at least parts of the community positive. However, there were also negative exceptional cases such as the “Tactical Beanie”, which many players made fun of.

This beanie was one of the reasons why MeinMMO author Marko Jevtic felt:

No matter what Battlefield 2042 does now – it’s too late
