How much do you pay to watch LaLiga and the Champions League: the jump from Movistar Fusión to miMovistar finally lets us know

With the disappearance of Movistar Fusión, watching all the football will be cheaper: this is how miMovistar TV rates remain

Telefónica has started May with a far-reaching decision: the retirement of Movistar Fusión and the premiere of miMovistar, a change that goes far beyond a dance of nomenclatures or slight adjustments to benefits and rates. Its great novelty is that the company allows customers to leave the “precooked” packages and make their own selection. From the closed menu, it goes to the buffet. One of the consequences of this modification is that we can already know how much does it cost us to watch football in Movistar. And the calculations show higher figures than could be expected for the future.

See all Spanish football and the Champions League (without DAZN) on miMovistar requires paying 43 euros per month. The total outlay is, however, somewhat higher, since to that amount must be added the 10 euros of the Movistar + Essential package, with fiber and mobile and that the user must contract on a mandatory basis. On that basis, staying alone with the Champions League requires a payment of 20 euros per month. If we only opt for the Spanish LaLiga, the sum rises to 30.

In short: watch all the football with Movistar plus the fiber and the mobile costs 53 euros per month.

How the rates have changed

Knowing the figures is an advance. It allows us to know exactly how much it costs us to watch the games and, above all, to make comparisons and also to look back and assess how the rates have evolved. Genbeta’s companions they have done it and the change is considerable.

Movistar’s figures, for example, are well above the 17 euros that until not long ago it was difficult to see LaLiga and the Champions through BelN Connect. If you were willing to give up Movistar Partidazo, the bill even went down further and stayed at 9.99.

The monthly payment also exceeds what mitele PLUS applied in its day, which during the 2019-2020 season offered all football for 35 euros. Thanks to a company promotion, the first three months were even cheaper and stayed at 30 euros.

The success of DAZN in the bid for broadcasting rights anticipated a possible stiffening of competition for Movistar+. For the moment, however, the firm has only announced that it has five games per day. The agreement reached at the end of March between Movistar+ and DAZN for the next five seasons, however, allows customers of the Telefónica platform to enjoy all the matches of the Spanish competition with more “pull”.

The fact that miMovistar rates are made public gives DAZN an added advantage when it comes to competing with its five LaLiga matches per matchday. In the case of the Champions League, you will have to wait even more than a year: Movistar has the rights in exclusive until 2024.

After years inflexible, Movistar has finally killed Fusion: what is the reason for the change to miMovistar just now

At the moment, the process takes us away from the cheapest prices that could be expected. Especially –as they point out in Genbeta— if we keep in mind two factors: the savings that Telefónica has achieved in LaLiga thanks precisely to DAZN and the one that it also achieved in the bid for the Champions. The advantage offered by miMovistar and its new content choice model is that the customer will be able to prioritize watching football over other features, such as higher fiber speeds.
