41 on Metacritic and sometimes only 1 active player: PS4/PS5 game is now probably dead for good

Our GamePro preview already showed that Babylon’s Fall will not be a sales guarantee. The game caught our eye, among other things, with its boring level design and suboptimal inventory management. Since little had been done in this regard by the time of release, it was no surprise that the game flopped. And it seems the game is now dead for PS4, PS5 and PC for good.

Babylon’s Fall player numbers in the basement

The page Steam Charts records how many users spend time in a game at the same time. Babylon’s Fall doesn’t do well at all: Within the last 24 hours (as of May 8th, 2022) only a maximum of 58 players* were online at the same time.

It gets even worse: On May 4, 2022 around midnight, only one user was online. However, these are only the user numbers for the PC version of Babylon’s Fall. Unfortunately, it is not possible to track how many players were online on PS4 and PS5 at the time.

Nevertheless, the statistics show how shockingly little approval the new game from the NieR: Automata makers finds. You can see what Babylon’s Fall actually has to offer in the following trailer:

Originally planned great future

On too Metacritic the game doesn’t fare well. While the press score is still 41 out of a possible 100 points, the users give it a 2.1 out of 10. User criticism ranges from a terrible story to graphics that are no longer up to date.

In addition, many users are bothered by the fact that microtransactions are included in the game, even though Babylon’s Fall is a full-price title. Even disappointments like Marvel’s Avengers, which haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory, should compare well.

You can read here why Marvel’s Avengers didn’t sell well:

Is Square Enix Abandoning the Game? But those responsible resigned anyway Square Enix and Platinum Games A few weeks ago, even planning to have content beyond Season 3. It remains questionable whether it is worthwhile for the development studio to develop new content for 58 players with a downward trend.

It remains to be seen how those responsible will react to the declining number of users. The content that has already been planned could possibly be scrapped and support stopped, on the other hand a saving update and fresh content could bring new wind into the number of users.

What is your experience with Babylon’s Fall? Are you perhaps one of the few users who give the game another chance?
