Genshin Impact developer is working on new game – Supposed to be open-world shooter

Developer HoYoverse (formerly miHoYo) landed a big hit with Genshin Impact and is now working on a new game. This will be presented in more detail on May 13th. But there are already first indications of what kind of game this could be.

What is known about the game? The name of the new game is Zenless Zone Zero. Not much is known about it, only that it should be an “AAA open-world action-adventure” that relies on shooter elements in the gameplay. At least that’s what the well-known gaming analyst Daniel Ahmad says (via Twitter).

The game world is said to be “alive and paranormal”. Of course, Zenless Zone Zero also uses anime graphics again.

It is currently unclear whether it will be a pure single-player game or whether you can also explore the shooter with friends in co-op, as is the case with Genshin Impact.

When will we find out more about the game? HoYoverse has already created its own website for the new game, which is currently running a countdown. This ends on Friday, May 13, around 8:00 (via Zenless). Then we will know more details.

However, the website is available in English, which indicates that the game will also be released globally.

HoYoverse landed huge success with Genshin Impact

Why should you keep an eye on the game? With Genshin Impact, HoYoverse has developed an open-world game that has enjoyed huge success in both Asia and the West. On average, players worldwide spend an average of $160 million per month. The most successful month was October 2020 with a turnover of $233.7 million (via sensor tower).

In total, more than 3 billion dollars have already been turned over since the release in September 2020. For comparison:

• Since its release almost 10 years ago, Guild Wars 2 has generated sales of around 700 million dollars – in 10 years and after 3 expansions (via NCSoft).
• Daybreak – the company that powers a total of 8 games including Lord of the Rings Online, Planetside 2, DC Universe Online and EverQuest 1 & 2 – had revenues of approximately $620 million for all of 2021 (via EnadGlobal7).
• All Activision Blizzard King comes in about $2 billion in revenue in one quarter (3 months) (via Activision).

The game managed to keep the players engaged with regular updates and at the same time earn a lot of money through the gacha system. Because in Genshin Impact new characters are released regularly, which you can get with luck from a banner package.

But players wouldn’t have stayed if the content and world weren’t designed that way. The attention to detail, the pretty graphics and the stories have captivated many players.
