This feature is no longer available on Facebook (even if nobody cares)

Meta has announced that several of the functions that use location will leave Facebook forever, perhaps due to privacy issues.

The changes in Facebook follow after Meta has announced that Podcasts would disappear from this social network. Now it’s up to one of the social functions that had arrived years ago but that has lost relevance during app updates.

It seems that Facebook would completely eliminate the Nearby Friends or Nearby Friends function, plus some other utilities. This decision could be final and Meta would already be announcing it to all its users through recent updates.

Facebook has started informing all its users that Nearby Friends and some other features that use user location will be discontinued from June 1:

Nearby friends and weather alerts will no longer be available after May 31, 2022. The information you’ve shared for these experiences, including location history and background location, will stop being collected after May 31, 2022. even if you previously enabled them.

Meta has started advertising this to all of their clientsso it seems like a move in favor of user security and privacy, as features that used users’ real-time location, sometimes without their knowledge, are being removed.

After May 31, 2022, Nearby Friends, weather alerts, maps of visited places and other features will be removed from the platform. Besides, all this data can be downloaded by the user with a deadline of August 1, 2022as Meta will then remove them entirely.

It should be noted that these functions they will be removed from both Android and iOSand we assume that they will be diluted little by little through the fortnightly updates that the company sends.
