New trading card ‘Pokémon’ is an ingenious oversight that should become a reality

Ash would be rightly excited if Spiritiny became a reality.

At the end of this year it will be published Pokémon Crimson & Crimson the ninth generation of Pokemon. This also means that new Pokémon await us again. So far we have, apart from the starters, but haven’t seen any of them yet. The reaction to the artwork of an upcoming trading card, which apparently shows a new Pokémon – or not, is all the stronger. Spiritiny isn’t a new Pokemon, but it should be

Which Pokémon trading card is it? The mysterious “new” Pokémon is featured on a Pokémon card of Kryppuk, a fourth-generation Ghost- and Dark-type Pokémon. The card belongs to the new Japanese set Dark Phantasma, which will be released soon.

A “Pokémon” crept in: On the artwork On the card, besides Kryppuk, there is not only a girl at the window, but apparently another figure with big eyes – at least at first glance. On closer inspection, however, it becomes clear that these eyes are not eyes at all, but merely the symbols for the Darkness energy card, which show the costs for the attack there:

Actually they are not eyes, just energy symbols.

Fans are excited about Spiritiny

Although, or perhaps because, this little ghostly figure isn’t actually a Pokémon, it’s enjoying a lot of attention in the TGC community right now. The fans even baptize the little creature Spiritiny, which actually reminds of the ghost lights in Pokémon Legends Arceus, but also as Baby Pokémon would go perfectly with Kryppuk (Spiritbomb in English). Twitter user TJGalamba even dedicated a small drawing and description to Spiritiny:

Well, Spiritiny isn’t a new Generation 9 Pokemon now, so it doesn’t appear in Crimson and Crimson. Therefore there is Hints at a new Eevee evolution. We also seem to have plenty of other new Pokemon to look forward to, as Crimson and Crimson looks set to deliver the biggest Pokédex expansion in years.

After more than eight generations, I like the Pokémon designs less and less. Sure, it’s not easy to keep making good monsters after all this time, but the Pokémon Company shouldn’t ignore this oversight, if it really was one. In my opinion, Spiritiny would be the perfect baby Pokémon for Kryppuk. So I’m appealing to the Pokémon Company: make this mistake a reality and make Spiritiny an official Pokémon! That would be cool fan service.

What do you think of Spiritiny? Do you really think it was an accident, or maybe someone had a little fun with the design of the map?
