New World and Lost Ark coming to PS5 and Xbox? Amazon is looking for new people

So far, the MMOs New World and Lost Ark can neither be played on PS5 nor on Xbox Series X | S play, but only on the PC. Could that change? An Amazon job ad at least gives hope.

What is this ad? Amazon Games is currently looking for a “Technical Account Manager” via the Amazon job portal. The job description states, among other things, that it is his job to release Amazon titles on partner platforms. PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Epic & Steam are mentioned.

Amazon Games is seeking a highly talented and motivated Technical Account Manager to join our Live Operations team in sunny San Diego to help bring our titles to our partner platforms (ie Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo, Epic & Steam).

Once hired, it would work with game teams around the world to ensure games meet the requirements to be released on partner platforms.

Specifically looking for someone with previous game development and publishing experience, and preferably with direct game publishing experience on Sony, Microsoft, Steam and other platforms.

What about New World and Lost Ark on PS5 and Xbox?

This is why the ad is interesting: As of this writing, New World and Lost Ark are the only major titles running on Amazon. Other projects like Crucible, which failed right after launch, or the Lord of the Rings MMORPG, whose development was discontinued, are a thing of the past.

This means that both come into question as possible intended titles when Amazon speaks of “our titles” – apart from future projects. At least New World is also briefly mentioned in the job description as an example of projects that Amazon Games has developed. In the case of Lost Ark, Amazon only appears as a publisher.

What is the status of the MMOs in terms of consoles? MeinMMO expert Alexander Leitsch thinks that New World would be wonderfully suited for the console. But in autumn 2021, New World announced via Twitter that the game would only be playable on the PC for the foreseeable future. This is not a complete exclusion of a console version forever, but nothing to the contrary has been announced so far.

There is at least some hope when it comes to Lost Ark. In March 2022, Amazon Games’ Soomin Park stated that “if Lost Ark on consoles is really something that people want, then I think it’s something that both parties are considering” – referring to Amazon Games and developers smilegate.

Lost Ark could have played a role in the fact that Lost Ark became such a big hit in the West on Steam. Because developer Smilegate is based in South Korea, where mobile and PC play a bigger role compared to consoles.

However, nothing is official in this regard. Accordingly, we have to wait and see whether New World or Lost Ark could end up on consoles in the future.
