We have reported extensively to you about the shortage of PS5 consoles since the release. According to Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, the console will remain in short supply until 2024 due to production difficulties due to a lack of resources.

So it’s no wonder that Sony missed its sales target in the 2021 fiscal year. Instead of the estimated 14.8 million console units sold, the company only sold 11.5 million PS5 consoles. That makes a difference of over 3 million units that didn’t ship. Nevertheless, Sony is now setting bigger goals.

Increase PS5 sales by 56 percent

What is Sony planning? During the quarterly conference call CFO Hiroki Totoki revealed the plans to investors and analysts. For the next fiscal year, i.e. from April 2022 to March 2023, Sony wants to drastically increase sales despite the ongoing shortage of resources and the missed sales target for fiscal year 2021.

According to this, around 18 million PS5 consoles should be sold over the counter in the 2022 fiscal year. Sony is even certain that it will achieve its sales target. Totoki stated that due to the current delivery difficulties, Sony is planning very conservatively and only gives the number that the company is sure it can deliver.

Much more: Sony actually assumes that it will even deliver 22.6 million PS5 consoles. However, due to the component limitation, the company corrected this utopian number downwards.

In the following article we will tell you why the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will remain scarce for several years to come:

Those interested in PS5 continue to get nothing

Although Sony is taking an upbeat path with its numbers, the company is dampening sentiment. Totoki is certain that the demand for PS5 consoles cannot be met despite the large numbers. Sony inventories are very low, creating a backlog of consoles.

What does that mean? It will continue to be difficult to get hold of a PS5. It is therefore only to be hoped that the delivery and production difficulties will settle down to a normal level again.

If you’re one of those who still haven’t been able to get hold of a PS5, you should follow the GamePro ticker. Here we will let you know as soon as dealers offer the coveted home consoles for sale. Remember: You have to be quick before resellers snatch the consoles from you!

What do you think: How likely is Sony’s forecast?
