A new mode is supposed to save PvP in Destiny 2 – is that enough?

The new TWaB for Destiny 2 has been released and with it finally new perspectives for the long dusty PvP. Bungie is confident that their featured changes will refresh the Crucible, but what exactly will change and will it actually be a breath of fresh air? We’ll show you!

What are the PvP highlights? Bungie revealed many minor changes and adjustments to PvP in its new May 12th TWaB. However, there are also major innovations that the development team wants to throw into the game in the coming seasons so that Guardians can let off steam. You can look forward to these highlights:

  • New Mode in Season 17 – Rift
  • Iron Banner becomes a big event
  • New PvP Triumph Seal – This time for Iron Banner
  • New big PvP map in Season 17
  • Return of Zone Control mode

This also includes minor changes, but they only affect individual PvP modes. But are all of these “innovations” enough, or is this mostly just warmed-up content?

A new mode – but limited time for now

What is the problem in Destiny 2 PvP? Apart from the fact that the PvP mode in Destiny 2 is infested with cheaters and hackers, many players also complain about the lack of content. Little love has been put into the existing modes for years and little to no new content has been delivered.

This is what the new mode will look like in Destiny 2

A lot of it feels very old and unloving because in the eyes of the community Bungie hasn’t done anything for PvP for far too long. With Season 17, however, things should change, according to the developers.

The Iron Banner is meant to resemble a big event, such as Eva Levante. During his event, Lord Saladin will decorate the tower in the style of the Iron Lords and will perform the new mode “Rift”. In return, the event style will also ensure that the Iron Banner will only appear twice in Season 17 and upcoming Seasons:

  • Week 2 (starts May 31st)
  • Week 8 (starts July 12)

Additionally, you’ll be able to earn a new Seal of Triumph worthy of Lord Saladin’s brutal mode. Here comes then also a new map, which is called the “separation”. She is tall according to Bungie and is located in the area in Savathûn’s throne world.

However, if you prefer new loot or new knightly armor, you still have to be patient. The developers have not yet confirmed any new items. But you can still be happy, because old armor and cosmetics from the Iron Banner will probably be playable again with Lord Saladin.

Bungie explicitly uses the term “cosmetics”. Anyone who knows Destiny 2 knows that these are mainly either damage or ornaments. So it’s possible that players can earn the old armor from year one in the form of ornaments, which are very rare.

Not only are these themed, like the appearance of samurai, but they also stand out from the standard Ice Banner sets. Many players had long hoped to one day be able to get this armor again. So if you’re just excited about new customization options, Season 17 could have a lot in store for you in Iron Banner.

Are the changes sufficient? It’s difficult to estimate, since every player defines his priorities differently. Some guardians finally want to be able to gamble without cheaters, while others finally want to have more new maps or brand new modes that can provide variety.

Looking at the changes Bungie has prepared, there is something for everyone. Unfortunately not in a huge amount but in small portions. The sad thing is that the “new” Rift mode in Season 17 will only be available in Iron Banner at first. So in Season 17 you only have a total of 2 weeks to play Rift mode during the two Iron Banner events.

The developers said that you won’t be able to fully enjoy the Rifts until Season 18 starts, as this mode will then also be implemented in the Crucible’s rotation. At least the new map can be put through its paces, since it will already be available in the Crucible when the 17th season is released, from May 24th.

What do you think of the innovations that Bungie has prepared for Destiny 2 in terms of PvP? Do you think it’s cool or are these announcements not enough for you and you would actually like to have a lot more maps and modes in the Crucible? Let us know your opinions in the comments!
