Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute vs V8 Absolute: The vacuum cleaner comparison

Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute Dyson V8 Absolute Dyson

What distinguishes the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute from its direct predecessor, the Dyson V8 Absolute? We compared the 2022 models of the two vacuum cleaners for you.

design, dimensions and weight

The first difference between the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute and its predecessor stands out lies in the design. This is mainly due to the new position of the dust container. At the V8 this is aligned “downwards”. With the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute, on the other hand, the manufacturer relies on a linear design. Motor, dust container and cyclone are arranged in one line.

Said dust container holds 0.76 liters in the new Dyson, which is significantly more than the Dyson V8 Absolute had with its 0.55 liters. In terms of weight, however, the two vacuum cleaners hardly differ. While the Dyson V8 Absolute including floor brush weighs almost 3.3 kilograms, the V10 is slightly more, namely almost 3.4 kilograms.

charging time and battery life

When it comes to charging time and battery life, the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute is clearly ahead. For a full charge, the latest Dyson vacuum cleaner only needs to be plugged in for 3.5 hours and then lasts up to 60 minutes.

But the predecessor V8 does not have to hide either. Although its maximum 40 minutes of battery life is significantly lower than that of the V10, this is still a decent performance for a cordless vacuum cleaner. However, the Dyson V8 Absolute has to be powered for a full 5 hours.

The suction power

Dyson advertises the new Cyclone V10 Absolute with the slogan that it is as powerful as a conventional corded vacuum cleaner. In fact, 14 concentrically arranged cyclones do their job inside the device, which in Max mode achieve a maximum of 150 airwatts. This is also made possible by the new design of the V10, which enables optimized air flow.

That’s a pretty impressive value that the Dyson V8 Absolute can’t keep up with either in theory or in real terms. The suction power of the V8 in the test as well. With its 2 tier radial cyclones and a maximum of up to 115 airwatts, however, it clearly has to admit defeat to the new addition to the Absolute family. After all: The 2022 model of the V8 has received a brush update just like the latest generation of the V10. Both vacuum cleaners now have Dyson’s newly developed Motorbar floor nozzle. This is to prevent hair from tangling around the roller.

which one is louder?

In terms of volume, there are hardly any differences between the two Dyson vacuum cleaners. Only at maximum suction power can it be seen that the Cyclone V10 Absolute gets a little louder than the V8 (maximum 87 dB compared to maximum 82 dB). You can have a conversation at least on level 1 and level 2 (which is only available on the V10) but still relatively easily.

At level 1, the Dyson Cyclone V10 Absolute is slightly quieter than its predecessor. The manufacturer also praises this and refers to optimized vibration absorption, which is intended to reduce the noise level. In practice, however, this is only noticeable to very keen-eared users in a direct comparison.

The price

One of the most important differences between the Dyson V8 Absolute and its successor, the V10, is the price. While the latest model from Dyson in the Absolute version has an RRP of around 500 euros, the V8 is loud RRP cost 400 euros.

If you don’t necessarily have to have the complete package with all floor nozzles and brushes, you can also get the Dyson Cyclone V10 cheaper. The V10 Animal and V10 Motorhead versions do not differ technically from the V10 Absolute, they just come with fewer accessories and a different tube color.
