The last FIFA will appear this year
How is the game series going?
There will be no new FIFA games after 2023. The sports organization couldn’t come to an agreement with EA. But the game series is not over yet.
News
Publisher Electronic Arts has confirmed the rumors that have been smoldering for a long time: From 2023, after almost 30 years, no new football games will be released under the FIFA name. Instead, the game series will be called EA Sports FC.
The reason for the separation from the license should have been the high fees for the brand name. The publisher reportedly had to pay about $250 million a year for the name.
Everyone who now fears for the future of the game series wants Electronic Arts with one press release calm. According to this, we already have more than 300 license partners on board in order to be able to integrate more than 19,000 players, 700 teams, 100 stadiums and 30 leagues into the game in the future. The 1st and 2nd Bundesliga should also continue to be included in EA Sports FC.
Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson thanks FIFA for the long partnership and already sets out the direction in which EA Sports FC should develop:
“Our vision for EA SPORTS FC is to create the largest and most influential football club in the world, at the epicenter of football fans. For almost 30 years we have been building the largest football community in the world – with hundreds of millions of players, thousands of partners- athletes and hundreds of leagues, federations and teams, EA SPORTS FC will be the club for each one of them and for football fans everywhere.
We are grateful for the many years of great partnership with FIFA. The future of global football is very bright and the fanbase around the world has never been stronger. We have an incredible opportunity to bring EA SPORTS FC to the heart of esports and bring even more innovative and authentic experiences to the growing football audience.”
There is currently no information on other FIFA titles apart from the main series such as FIFA Online or FIFA Mobile. They will probably also run under a new name in the future.
