Elden Ring could spice up PvP mode from Bloodborne and Dark Souls a bit

Instead of new co-op content, Elden Ring fans are primarily speculating on a new PvP arena.

In Elden Ring we can not only meet all kinds of enemy monsters, but also aggressive PvP players. Through the so-called invasions, it is possible for us and others to invade foreign worlds and finish off the players there.

Optionally, it is possible that willing duel partners can be found with the help of items such as the Small Red Statue or the Duelist’s Crooked Finger. But as a dataminer has now found out, it could be that we could look forward to an even more extensive PvP mode in the future.

Dataminer discovers PvP ranking system

StrayKurtis published a data leak from the source code of Elden Ring on Twitter. During data mining, the user came across different ranks such as “Hunter Rank” or “Duelist Rank”, which did not make it into the finished game:

What could that mean? The fact that the ranks are not yet in the game could bode well for a more extensive PvP mode to come. Alternatively, this could simply be content removed from the existing PvP content in the game that the FromSoftware development team has not removed from the code.

But Elden Ring fans are already speculating in the comments that the ranking system could actually point to upcoming PvP content. What we can experience so far in PvP mode is summarized in this article:

Arenas could be brought to life

In the past, players have noticed the mysterious coliseums that can be found in Limgrave, Caelid and Leyndell. So far, the battle arenas are locked and cannot be entered, so it is possible that the coliseums will open their doors with a later DLC.

In Dark Souls and Bloodborne it was already possible to use items to infiltrate other game worlds. A later DLC also added a PvP arena to Dark Souls 3 after the release. So it stands to reason that we could expect similar PvP content in Elden Ring, albeit in an improved form.

Since Elden Ring has already further improved some previous Souls mechanics, it could be that the PvP mode will be even better and more extensive than in all previous FromSoftware titles. What that might look like remains to be seen.

It remains exciting to see whether we can actually expect a PvP DLC in the future, whether the existing content will be expanded to include the ranking system, or whether the data mining leak found is simply deleted content. As soon as FromSoftware makes an announcement about upcoming content, you will of course find out about it on GamePro.de.

What do you think: What could be behind the ranking system?
