The 5 most annoying players that drive me crazy in shooters on Steam and PS5

Fallout 76 Nerd Rage Superhero Title

Any shooter fan could spend hours getting upset about fellow players they meet in their games. It doesn’t matter whether it’s on the PS5, Steam or Xbox – you always meet the same annoying fellow players. MeinMMO author Marko Jevtic tells you which 5 people from online shooters he thinks are the worst.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s in Discord with friends or in in-game voice chat with complete strangers – communicating with fellow players in shooters always pushes me to my limits.

Almost every popular shooter on the market puts you in a team. Together you should devise strategies, support each other and win. Team play is very important, from battle royales like CoD Warzone and Apex Legends to classic shooters like CoD Vanguard or Halo.

But in reality it is usually very different than in the advertising trailers that the marketing companies always come up with. Instead of coordinated team play, there are wild loners, and swear words are used where strategies need to be discussed.

That’s why I’ll tell you the 5 types of shooter players that drive me completely insane. These people keep making me turn the volume down all the way – or spend the evening in bed with a book instead of frustrated in front of the PS5 or PC.

1. The Rager

Fallout 76 Nerd Rage Superhero Title

The Rager is the prototype of the bad teammate – the only true original. Whether things are going well or not, the Rager yells, moans, bitches, and blames everyone else. The insults are never creative or funny, but always below the belt.

Anyone who has Rager on the team knows that the mood is always bad. A gun that yesterday was incredibly OP and bullshit is now a useless piece of dirt – just when it’s in his hands.

Because the Rager himself can never just be bad or have a bad day. Everything is a conspiracy against him. Whether it’s the weapon balancing, the teammates, or the enemies – who are always dirty and lying cheaters, of course.

And so the rager runs off on his own, ignoring all the gamemode tasks and dying the same way over and over again. You lose more games; he continues to lose his composure, and more and more so.

Not even a Snickers helps here, only the off button.

2. The wannabe pro

Twitch xQc Rage

The wannabe Pro is something of a more sophisticated, refined evolution of the Rager. He also screams a lot and is never satisfied, but he goes about it with more finesse.

Every game situation needs a strategy, every little thing needs exactly the right reaction, and if a player doesn’t play absolutely perfectly and ESL ready, there’s trouble.

There is no fun playing with this team member, every match is as important as a Pro-League final. You can’t blame these players for not putting their heart and soul into it or for ignoring the tasks in the game.

But when every round of Team Deathmatch in Call of Duty resembles a military boot camp, the teammates quickly lose the enjoyment of the game itself.

Speaking of the military…

3. The Military Roleplayer

Overwatch Soldier

Realistic shooting games like Escape from Tarkov, Insurgency or even Battlefield attract these players like moths to flame: the military role players.

These people insist on clear hierarchies, want to be addressed by their first names and call opponents “Tango”. Instead of “yes” you say “roger that”. You’re always a sergeant or colonel yourself, of course – because why roleplay as a simple, interchangeable soldier?

That’s what happens when you want to watch Full Metal Jacket and fall asleep after about half an hour. You now want to feel like the boot camp instructor from the film every minute of the game.

Unfortunately, these people don’t realize that this character in Full Metal Jacket is an obnoxious villain. Better not to show them what happens to the drill sergeant in the movie though. They have too much fun bossing around, calling people “maggots,” and generally speaking a harsh tone.

4. The chatterbox

Borderlands 3 Claptrap title 1140x445

The beauty of multiplayer games is that you can play them with friends and even make new friends in the matches. Small talk is part of it and also fun. But some people overdo it.

It’s an intense situation in the match, it’s the last and all-important fight in the match. Every footstep can be important and lead to well-deserved victory, but you don’t hear it. Because the random teammate tells you in voice chat comfortably about his walk in the park, where he saw a cute dog.

You’re desperately screaming in chat for a healer to pick you up again, but your supports are distracted. All you hear is the description of a wagging tail and the infinitely cute picking up of a much too large stick – at least three times the size of the dog itself!

An enemy soldier sprints into your hiding place, you are fragged, the whole enemy team teabags you, a big, red “Lost” lights up your eyes from the screen. Meanwhile, in the voice chat, the number of treats is casually counted out. You still have a smile on your face. He just sounds incredibly cute, this dog.

5. The microphone abuser

A popular category on Twitch, for example, is ASMR. Here people whisper into their microphones in a soft voice or let objects rustle a little to calm the listeners with pleasant noises.

But there aren’t people like that in my shooters. Instead, I hear gamers apparently using a radioactive Pringles can as a microphone.

If you want to be such an annoying pest yourself, you can do it in 5 very simple steps:

  1. Find the cheapest microphone in the world.
  2. Make it sensitive enough to pick up the fly across the street.
  3. Fixes the microphone directly in front of the mouth and nose as if it were an FFP2 mask.
  4. Always have voice chat active.
  5. Breathe like a Darth Vader and talk as loud as you can.

Voila! Every word you say now sounds like a nuclear bomb exploding on the eardrums of your fellow players. You get bonus points if you also have a really loud keyboard, sit in a squeaky chair and play the worst nu-metal of the early 2000s in the background.

But even if you’re a good hearted soul who only says the nicest and smartest things in the world – everyone will hate you and I’ll mute you in a heartbeat.

For me, these are the 5 most annoying players in shooters. Do you agree with this list and the descriptions? Do you have another category that really gets on your nerves? Or maybe you even recognize yourself in one of these descriptions? Let us know in the comments.
