Pokémon GO: Trainers search in vain for 2 ancient monsters – “As if they didn’t exist”

Pokémon GO Galapaflos and Flapteryx

Pokémon GO has rare monsters that are damn hard to find. Two fossil monsters belong to this group – and in the community one wonders: Where are they actually?

What Pokemon is it about? In the Pokémon GO subreddit TheSilphRoad, a trainer is currently looking for the Pokémon Galapaflos. This turtle monster belongs to the so-called “Fossil Pokémon” and is one of the oldest Pokémon in Pokémon lore.

Galapaflos and its evolution Karippas have been in Pokémon GO since early 2020, but the turtle only appeared in eggs for the time being. The fossil has now disappeared from the egg pool, instead it roams around in the wild – but only very rarely.

A trainer writes in the subreddit: “Has anyone seen a Galapaflos during the Alola season?” (via reddit) He hasn’t found one yet – as have some trainers in the comments. But he saw 4 Flapteryx, he says in his post. And that in turn calls other coaches on the plan:

  • “I’m just amazed you saw four Flapteryx. I want your happiness,” writes one (via reddit).
  • “I had 3 in one year. This little guy is insanely rare,” wrote another (via reddit).
  • “I don’t have one [Galapaflos] seen. The same goes for Flapteryx. It’s like they don’t exist” (via reddit).

You see a lot of comments like that, because Flapteryx is the opposite of Galapaflos. The small prehistoric bird and its development Aeropteryx came into play at the same time as the turtle, but under the same conditions: first in eggs, then rarely in the wild.

The question is: where are the two?

Where are Flapteryx and Galapaflos in Pokémon GO?

Where can you find the monsters? Both monsters are explicitly listed in the current Alola season’s spawn list, however, there is no boosted spawn rate for them. They can currently be found in the wild, but not everywhere.

  • Flapteryx can currently be found in the mountains. It appears more often in partly cloudy or windy weather.
  • Galapaflos can be found on beaches and bodies of water. It appears more often in rainy or partly cloudy weather.

There is virtually no guarantee that you will meet the two. A Flapteryx encounter was part of the “Pioneer 40 special research” – but only players who had reached level 40 before the end of 2020 got it.

In the subreddit, trainers report that you just really need luck. Many have never even seen either of them, while others report having at least one or two specimens. Only in exceptional cases did some trainers collect more.

Especially for the current water festival, some trainers had apparently hoped for at least more Galapaflos spawns. So far, however, this has not been the case.

Do you already have the two monsters in your collection? If so, where and when did you catch them? Tell us in the comments!
