Final Fantasy 15 hits sales milestone! Final Fantasy 11 celebrates its 20th anniversary
There’s reason to celebrate in Final Fantasy! Part XI is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary. On May 16, 2002, the first servers of the online role-playing game went live. In addition, Final Fantasy XV was able to bag a sales milestone!
Do you know what’s coming up this year? The 35th anniversary of Square’s Final Fantasy series. The very first part was released on December 18, 1987 in Japan and on June 12, 1990 in the United States. For which platform? Of course, for the Nintendo Entertainment System, NES for short. But this is not the only FF anniversary in 2022. In fact, Final Fantasy XI also celebrated its birthday yesterday, May 16, 2022!
Happy Birthday Final Fantasy XI!
The first online role-playing game of the JRPG series was released in Japan on May 16, 2002 for … the Playstation 2. The PC release actually followed on November 5th. It should take even longer until the launch in the USA and Europe – here we could not experience Final Fantasy XI until September 17th, 2004.
Sales milestone for FFXV
In addition to Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XV (or the team behind the game and those responsible at Square Enix) also has a reason to celebrate. A Japanese post states (via PCGamesN) that the latest part of the series (console launch on November 29, 2016) has now sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. In November 2018, eight months after the release on PC, the counter was still at 8.4 million copies sold.
And what does the future bring? Well, hopefully timely news about Final Fantasy XVI. According to game producer Naoki Yoshida, it should be available in spring 2022. We’re waiting, Yoshi-P! And if you haven’t played Final Fantasy XV yet, you can get the Royal Edition of FFXV starting in June as part of the new Playstation Plus model catch up at a low price.
