App does not load
Want to download or update the CovPass app from the App Store or Google Play Store but can’t? You can do this:
- Internet connection check: Is your smartphone connected to a WLAN? If so, the connection may not be stable. If necessary, restart the router. Or does your cell phone use the mobile network? If your data volume is used up, the download will not work.
- Restart the device: Your smartphone may have lost connection to the App Store or Google Play Store after an operating system update. After a reboot it should work again.
- server status: Check server status from App Store and Google play store. Other users may also be having problems with the stores.
- clear cache: Sometimes clearing the cache is enough.
iOS: Go to “Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data > Clear History and Data”.
Android: Open Google Chrome, tap on “More” and on “History > Clear browsing data”. Select the period you want and tick the boxes next to it “Cookies and website data” and “Cached images and files”. Tap on “Clear Data”.
QR code cannot be scanned
If the QR code of your vaccination certificate cannot be scanned, it could be due to one of the following reasons:
- Is the certificate correct? The title of your vaccination certificate must be “EU DIGITAL COVID VACCINATION CERTIFICATE” or “EU COVID-19 VACCINATION CERTIFICATE”. Only then is the document official.
- Pay attention to the distance: If you are too close to the paper with your smartphone camera, it cannot capture the QR code. This also applies if your hand shakes or trembles a lot.
- your environment must be light. If you are in a dark room, use your smartphone’s flashlight.
- Is the QR code clearly visible? It must not be curved or have a kink.
- Current app version: As with many other issues with the CovPass app, keep the app up to date.
- If the QR code is scanned again: Have you ever uploaded a certificate and then deleted it again? In this case you have to download the app again. Then scanning should work again.
Booster vaccination invalid
Your booster vaccination is showing as invalid in the CovPass app? Take a close look: Your new certificate must appear in the app as “Vaccination 3 of 3” are displayed. Tap on “Show certificates” under your name. Does it say “vaccination 2 of 2” at the bottom? In this case, your certificate was issued incorrectly.
Important: A special rule applies to the vaccine from Johnson & Johnson. After your booster shot, the CovPass app will say “Vaccination 2 of 2”. That is correct in this case, since the initial vaccination with this active ingredient consists of only one dose.
