Dying Light: Developer Confirms Fantasy Action RPG Starring Former CDPR Employees

Dying Light developer Techland announced in a press release that it is working with former The Witcher developers on an open-world fantasy role-playing game.

Techland has big news to announce. On the one hand, Dying Light 2 should be supplied with updates for at least five years. On the other hand, they are working on a brand new fantasy brand and are relying, among other things, on the expertise of former The Witcher developers from CD Projekt Red.

Techland meets fantasy

In the press release, Techland confirms what has been preached for a long time. Dying Light 2 should not be a “one-shot”, but receive many updates. The first story DLC for the very successful Dying Light 2 only had to be postponed from June to September a few days ago, but with a content roadmap that provides “at least” five years, three months are quite manageable. “We’re very pleased with what we’ve achieved so far with the Dying Light franchise.” Dying Light 2 Stay Human’s support should at least match – or even surpass – the scope and size of its predecessor.

The second part of the press release is much more exciting, at least from the point of view of those who would like to see another project from Techland after the promising Hellraid was probably buried. Techland is announcing a new brand that is said to be “significantly” different from what has been done in recent years. They want to create a new “fantasy epic” that is designed as an open-world role-playing game. Getting a little more specific a tweet from Techland, which explicitly refers to an action role-playing game that is to be developed as a so-called triple-A production. Techland is still looking for many developers. A first concept graphic is also shown, showing a ruined city surrounded by waterfalls.

In order to get the ambitious project off the ground, they don’t rely on existing staff, but instead present a list of well-known developers who are relatively new to Techland. These include former CD Projekt Red developers who worked on The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 and are now in charge of the new fantasy project. Other developers who have joined Techland in recent months also have a lot of experience and come from renowned studios such as Arkane, Guerrilla Games or Ubisoft. It may be a while before more details about the fantasy game emerge, but Techland is looking forward to “showing it to players when the time is right.”
