MSI 2022 Rumble Stage: T1 favorite vs G2 in Duel of the Giants

T1 vs G2: The match between G2 Esports and T1 could be called a duel of the giants. G2 shaved through the LEC playoffs and are on a 20 game win streak across the board. T1 managed a perfect 18-0 season in the South Korean LCK. They are unbeaten in 26 matches. Both teams will start the MSI 2022 Rumble Stage. Who Loses Their Winstreak? The favorite is clearly the domestic T1 – G2, however, won the last duels against the South Koreans.

The history: G2 Esports and T1 have often played against each other in the past. First at MSI 2016 when G2 didn’t even make the playoffs. At MSI 2017, T1 defeated their European opponents twice in the group stage and then 3-1 in the final. MSI 2019 was then the turning point of the duel. G2 beat T1 (then SKT T1) twice in the group stage and beat the top favorites 3-2 in the semifinals. In the same year the World Championships were scheduled. They met again in the semifinals – this time the result was even 3:1 for G2. Already at G2 in 2019: Caps and Jankos.

MSI 2022 Rumble Stage: T1 wants revenge – G2 heats up the atmosphere

LEC Playoffs: The duel between G2 and T1 opens the MSI 2022 Rumble Stage on May 20th at 10:00 a.m. German time. One of the teams will then, willy-nilly, lose their long winning streak. T1 is the bookie favourite, but the game will be decided on Summoner’s Rift based on today’s form. G2 already heats up the atmosphere before the duel against T1. Following their 3-0 win over Rogue in the LEC Finals, their all-painted General Manager Romain Bigeard took to the stage. His leg had the names of their LEC playoff opponents crossed out. Top planer Broken Blade also ruled out Rogue. What else was there? T1

RNG third favorite: The Chinese team Royal Never Give Up is also a favorite for the MSI 2022 title. In their group, they lost none of their nine games. RNG had to replay three MSI 2022 group stage games because they were given an unfair advantage by being the only team not playing at the venue. G2, T1 and RNG should master the rumble stage without any problems, then the decision in the KO phase comes. Will T1 live up to its role as favorite or will G2 Esports surprise again like in 2019?
