Simon The Sorcerer Origins: Prequel surprisingly revealed
With the return of Guybrush Threepwood at the latest, classic adventures are on everyone’s lips again. But not only the cult pirate is celebrating his long overdue comeback: With Simon the Sorcerer, the next adventure star is about to be pulled out of the dustbin. 13 years after his last appearance, the rebellious wizard returns in a brand new adventure. As the name suggests, Simon the Sorcerer Origins will be a prequel to the popular adventure series. The game thus tells the history of the first part, which was released in 1993. The still unknown Italian team from is responsible for the development Smallthing Studios, as publisher Leonardo Interactive is on board. Simon the Sorcerer Origins is scheduled for release next year, the official Steam page lists March 28, 2023 as a specific date. The classic adventure is not only for PC announced, the consoles will also be served: In addition to the PC, Simon the Sorcerer Origins should also appear for Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. At release, the game should support several languages, including German.
Simon the Sorcerer Origins will be a classic point-and-click adventure that, in addition to challenging puzzles, will again score with a whimsical fantasy setting and biting humor. On the official Steam page one clarifies: Simon the Sorcerer Origins will explicitly not be a remake, but a brand new game with the original license. The developers want to offer a mixture of nostalgia and freshness to make fans and newcomers happy. The graphics are also going in a fresh direction: This time you can expect a contemporary cartoon style, which already scores points in the first trailer with some nice details (lighting, reflections, hand-drawn animations).

With its new look, the game deviates significantly from its five predecessors: After the first two original games still shone in the classic pixel look, the third part was completed (and neat ugly) implemented in 3D. The late sequels Simon the Sorcerer: Chaos is Half the Life and Simon the Sorcerer: Who Wants Contact? were staged in a mix of pre-rendered environments and 3D characters. Both games were created at the time by the German developer studio Silver Style Entertainment. However, Simon the Sorcerer Origins is being developed by a whole new team, neither Silver Style nor other developers of the earlier games appear to be on board with the prequel.
