Microsoft is currently grappling with complaints about Windows updates, while at the same time the company is preparing for the upcoming 22H2 update for Windows 11. The most recent patch day brought a problematic download with KB5013943 for Windows 11, which continues to cause problems with apps starting. They go so far that the security company Sophos warned its customers. Anyone using the manufacturer’s software could observe blue screens and program crashes after the update. Sophos However, he was able to fix the bug on his site earlier this week.

The US security authority is now warning of the patch for Windows 11 mentioned and also of the current update for Windows 10 CISA. reason is one security breach, which the patch fixes on ordinary systems. However, Windows servers in companies with domain controllers are left out. After the May update, authentication errors might appear in services like NPS, RRAS, Radius, EAP, and PEAP. Standard systems without a domain controller are not affected. Windows updates are still recommended for such users – even if .NET 3.5 Framework can still cause problems.

Reports about apps that cannot be started have existed since the end of April. Last month’s optional patch sparked reports. The patch day that followed should actually be dedicated to the appropriate problems. A few days after the first updates were deployed, however, the opposite turned out to be the case. The issue is still listed in the known issues of patch KB5013943. The recommended solution is to disable and re-enable using a command prompt. Enter the following commands one after the other:

  • dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:netfx3 /all
  • dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:WCF-HTTP-Activation
  • dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:WCF-NonHTTP-Activation

The solution is considered temporary. If you have problems with the apps you use, you can try it. Otherwise, a final fix could be available by or at the end of the month for the usual, optional patch cycle.
