New God of War Ragnarok scenes show graphics upgrade compared to 2021

God of War 2: Ragnarök könnte bei der nächsten State of Play im Mittelpunkt stehen.

God of War Ragnarök already looked pretty at the reveal, but has now been upgraded again.

God of War Ragnarök already looked pretty at the reveal, but has now been upgraded again.

Developer Sony Santa Monica has announced the new accessibility options in God of War: Ragnarök in a blog post, along with two short gameplay videos to illustrate the customization options. At first glance, it looks like these are just scenes we already know from the 2021 trailer – but if you look closely, you will see some graphical upgrades in the new footage.

Ragnarok looks even better with overhauled effects and animations

Actually, the videos, which are only a few seconds long, are primarily intended to illustrate the game’s accessibility options. You can read everything you need to know about the customization options here:

As twisted voxel however, while the scenes are similar to those in the reveal trailer, they are not identical. The level of detail in the surroundings has been increased, new particle effects have been added and Atreus’ facial animations look a lot livelier.

This has changed: The clips not only show that the surroundings have more details, the effects are also denser. The fog or the little clouds of breath that Kratos and Atreus emit when speaking create a rather frosty atmosphere, which is also supported by the cooler lighting mood.

And a lot seems to have happened when it comes to fine-tuning the animations, as we can see in the short clip with Sohnemann Atreus.

More on God of War:

New information possibly in June

The graphical upgrade is of course not surprising given that the game is still under development. But it’s nice to see how much has happened here in direct comparison since last year, and the fine-tuning at least gives an indication of how far the development could have progressed.

But we still have to be patient, because although God of War Ragnarök is supposed to be released in 2022, a release date is still missing. If the rumors of a State of Play in June are confirmed, we have a good chance of seeing more of the highly anticipated PS4 and PS5 exclusive there.

Do you like the graphical improvements?
