Norman Reedus says Death Stranding 2 is coming but I don’t believe him

An interview with Norman Reedus is currently doing the rounds. The plot: The actor revealed a Death Stranding sequel while speaking to site Leo Edit. As a truly huge fan of the postman simulator, who can only recommend this special game to you, my anticipation should actually go through the roof at this point. In fact, I have serious doubts about whether we will really see a classic sequel starring The Walking Dead star.

That’s what Norman Reedus says about Death Stranding 2

More on where my doubts come from. First of all, a look at his statements to Leo:

Leo: Okay, you’ve got a book in the works, the final season (of TWD) coming out, then the spinoff, and you’re filming Death Stranding, the video game.

Reedus: We just started the second partn. […] It took me about two to three years to do all the motion capture footage [des ersten Teils] to complete. It’s a lot of work. And then the game came out and it won all the awards and it was generally a huge thing. That’s why we started with Part 2 right away.

About the author: Dennis never really warmed to Hideo Kojima games, but Death Stranding has kept him completely hooked for much of the delivery time. Starting with the very special soundtrack, the decelerating gameplay to the surreal and yet heart-rending story, he was enthusiastic about the game. Looking back, hardly a second game in the last ten years has stuck in his memory so much.

I just can’t imagine a classic Death Stranding 2

Suffice it to say that a Norman Reedus revelation of Death Stranding 2 is weird enough – anything is possible with Hideo Kojima’s projects.

Once you’ve beaten the game, can you really imagine a classic sequel? Deliver packages again, trudge through an open world while carrying a baby from A to B? Isn’t Death Stranding rather told and playfully completed?

From my point of view it is, but that doesn’t mean that Reedus is giving us a fuck here. I can rather imagine a kind of prequel or even a spin-off, with all the memorable characters like Fragile, Heartman and Co.

Not an open world game: In addition, I can not imagine that we experience a classic open world game in the second part. Kojima is known for his affinity with the medium of film and for his sometimes abstruse ideas. What I could definitely imagine would be a more linear game in the style of Quantic Dream adventures like Heavy Rain, spiced up with a gameplay twist we haven’t seen before. Maybe with a clever social component similar to the beach system from Sam’s first adventure.

So I’m really excited to see what’s in store for us here. And if it’s going to be a completely classic Death Stranding 2, then I’ll lace up my hiking boots in good time and book the plane to Iceland.

Can you imagine a classic Death Stranding 2 with open world, same gameplay loop etc?
