Streamer receives over €300 from his fans and complains – “Why are you laughing?”
Former Twitch streamer Philip “DSPGaming” Burnell, aka DarksydePhil, spoke on YouTube about preferring to receive donations, despite only receiving around $300 from YouTube memberships before. MeinMMO reports what was going on there.
Who is the streamer?
- Burnell has been creating content on YouTube for 12 years. First for fun, but now he calls it “his business”. He currently has 198,000 subscriptions on the platform.
- In the meantime, DSPGaming also streamed on Twitch and has over 100,000 followers there. However, they probably removed his partner status because he was too prone to hateful speech. He gave them an ultimatum, demanding that Twitch publicly apologize to him or he would permanently switch to YouTube.
- So he is currently streaming on YouTube and is considered a bad video gamer in his community. In addition, its content and atmosphere are rather negative. He also frequently asks for donations from his viewers.
- Even now, DSPGaming emphasized that donations are very important to finance his life. This happened shortly after he had only received about 300 euros.

How does a membership on YouTube work? YouTube allows viewers to purchase memberships that are equivalent to subscriptions on Twitch. The YouTuber sets the prices for these memberships. From 0.99 euros and upwards, a wide variety of contributions can be selected.
The percentage a YouTuber gets varies a bit, but you can calculate around 60% that the content creator gets from a membership.
What about DSPGaming? The streamer has 3 memberships to choose from:
- 3.99 euros
- 9.99 euros
- 19.99 euros
In 24 hours he got 100 memberships on YouTube. 400 US dollars, i.e. around 378 euros, are said to have got around. The reason for this was that he only recently received the feature – the fans were happy for him and wanted to support him with it.
What did the streamer say about that? DSPGaming thanked the supporters and said: “Didn’t I tell you this was happening? I knew and thank you guys. Thank you for fulfilling what I expected.” He said he knew beforehand that he would receive so many memberships.

However, he had to make one thing very clear: “I have to emphasize something, okay? Donations are very important to me and my business.” The streamer then listed things he could buy directly with the donations or what he could spend them on:
- New games
- things for his business
- Nintendo online
- His groceries
- Dinner with his wife
DSPGaming hopes that its fans don’t just give away memberships and forget about donating. That would put him in a “bad situation.” As a result, his viewers texted “lol” and “lmao” in the chat and he asked, “Why are you laughing?” and threatened to end the stream.
If I’m being honest with you and you think that’s funny – that’s stupid. What’s wrong with you guys? I’m telling you that I can’t afford anything on my day off, Tuesday, if I only get memberships this weekend.

Furthermore, he insulted people a few times, who really find the situation funny.
Burnell explained again that the money from the memberships will only get into his account in 1-1.5 months, but now he has things that he has to pay for. He encouraged people to donate, especially those who have done so in the past.
He ended the stream with a donated 31.24 euros.
