WoW: Fan runs from Silithus to Winterquell on his treadmill

World or layer hopping: Normal in most MMOs, not in WoW (1)

Bringing the world of Warcraft to real life is what a longtime WoW fan wants. To make his dream come true, he runs from Silithus to Winterspring on a treadmill. Now you can read exactly how the whole thing is supposed to work and why we think the idea is pretty cool.

Have you ever dreamed of walking through Kalimdor in real life? The reddit user and WoW fan TheeHole will now fulfill exactly this dream with the help of virtual reality. He plans to walk across Kalimdor from the gong in front of Ahn’Quiraj in Silithus to the ruined bridge at Frostbreeze Gorge in Winterspring – on a treadmill.

With halved in-game movement speed through Kalimdor

To implement his project, TheeHole programmed his treadmill to sync with an in-game video of his character walking the said distance from Silithus to Winterquell. The speed at which the video runs corresponds to a treadmill pace of 11.25 km/h, which is half the running speed of WoW characters in the game.

The player specifies the total length of the route that he wants to cover as 14.5 kilometers and a height difference of 81 meters. The duration of the run will therefore be 1 hour, 17 minutes and 20 seconds at the set pace, which is a new personal best time for TheeHole (previously he claimed to have run 13.6 kilometers in the same time).
