EA is said to be in talks about a sale, Amazon and Disney in talks

Electronic Arts is said to be actively interested in selling the company or in a merger.

According to data from puck (Paywall, via VGC) the publisher recently held talks with the companies Disney, Apple, Amazon and Comcast-NBCUniversal.

The report said talks with Comcast-NBCUniversal were the most advanced before ending last month. Comcast CEO Brian Roberts is said to have proposed spinning off NBCUniversal and merging Comcast with EA.

“The general terms of the proposal, which lawyers and bankers on both sides debated for several weeks, would have allowed the Roberts family to take majority control of the combined company. In the most seriously debated configuration, the company would be from [EA-CEO Andrew] Wilson.”

The talks are said to have collapsed last month due to differences in price and structure. A spokesman for Comcast wanted to comment, EA only said that they do not comment on rumors and speculation.

According to the report, Microsoft’s takeover of Activision Blizzard further reinforced EA’s plans.

“Others say EA is primarily interested in a merger that would allow Wilson to remain as CEO of the combined company.”

As the video game industry boomed during the coronavirus pandemic, it has become a lucrative and safe market for investors.
