The Legacy of Kain series should have burned itself into the hearts of many PS1 owners at the latest with Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. The vampire game series has enjoyed cult status ever since. However, it has also become very quiet about the franchise for almost 20 years now. But the acquisition of the trademark rights by the Embracer Group and some statements from those responsible are now raising new hopes of a return.

Post Embracer Deal: Chances are Legacy of Kain will return

That’s what it’s about: In a sensational deal, Embracer Group recently acquired Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal. And with all the brands that go with it, including Thief, Deus Ex, Tomb Raider and Legacy of Cain includes. If you want to know what all belongs to the video game giant, you will find it in this GamePro article:

We now know a little more about what exactly the new owners plan to do with the brands. A quarterly report at least mentions that there is a lot of potential in this acquisition. Among other things, “not only sequels, but also remakes, remasters, spinoffs and transmedia projects” are conceivable. In connection with this, series such as Tomb Raider, Thief, Deus Ex and Legacy of Kain are explicitly mentioned (via: VG24/7).

Comeback after 20 years? The last Legacy of Kain title was released in 2003 or 2004, so quite some time ago. However, given the takeover and the above statements, the odds are now better than ever that the vampire franchise could return. Maybe even as a remake, sequel and with regard to the so-called transmedia projects also outside of the video game world, for example in film or series form.

What are transmedia projects? This should mean everything that goes beyond video games. Thanks to the success of projects like the Uncharted movie or the Castlevania Netflix series or the League of Legends series spinoff Arcane and many comics or books about games, the possibilities are almost limitless.
