Elden Ring: This annoying as hell crawling monster gets even scarier without his robe

The Royal Revenant is nasty, but also a troubled being.

They may have ruined your tour more than once: the Royal Revenants (translated: “Royal Revenants”). The centipede-like enemies with crowns on their heads are some of the most annoying opponents in the Elden Ring. But the nasty critters are not only pretty good at tormenting us, they also seem to be plagued existences themselves. This is shown in a video where we can get a spooky look under the enemy’s robes.

Eerie look under the robe

It’s all about this: They are extremely fast, can poison us and stun us so much that we cannot even counterattack. On the other hand, if we try to flee, they like to disappear into the ground to reappear in our immediate vicinity. Most Elden Ring players will have met their deaths at some point in the Royal Revenant.

Dataminer Zullie the Witch has now dedicated a video to the opponent in which we can take a closer look at the monster. To do this, Zullie simply took his cape away and shows us the naked body – or rather “the bodies”, because the Revenant seems to consist of several torsos that have grown together. They each have their own arms.

Probably not a transplant victim: But it doesn’t look like transplanting, as we know it from the scion opponents and Godrick, because despite the strange arrangement everything seems homogeneous. Zullie explains that it looks more like “the extra limbs grew out of the revenant itself”. In addition, Zullie points out that the monster only has one pair of legs in addition to the many arms, but these hang away from the body the wrong way round. We can see without the cloak that the torso is severely twisted at the back.

Recurring theme in Elden Ring

However, it gets scariest when we take a look from below. It turns out that the creature’s front torso gapes open and is empty. We can look up to the spine. You may have noticed this once the monster reared up above you, but it’s hard to see in the heat of battle.

This attack allows you to catch a glimpse from below - but only if you're not too distracted.

Zullie calls the motif “an oddly recurring design in Elden Ring”. Even the big trolls, for example, have open abdomens. Zullie explains regarding the Revenants:

Due to their cursed nature, revenants are damaged by healing magic, which only makes their gaping wounds worse.

Not a nice fate. So you see, the revenants have every reason to be so stinky. Incidentally, it is also interesting that the AI, as Zullie reports, is called HorriblenessGrub, which in German means “terrible made”. So could there be a much more nasty evolution? Who knows, maybe we’ll see a flying fright butterfly or fright moth in some DLC?

What do you think of this monster design and recurring theme in Elden Ring?
