WoW: How does the story of Nozdormu continue in Dragonflight?

The flow of time is one of many divine protections created by the titans to save Azeroth from destruction.

The Bronze Dragonflight resides in World of Warcraft in the Caverns of Time in Tanaris, where our heroes were primarily drawn to in Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm. The mystical Caverns of Time feature multiple instances and raids that recreate the long-ago events of Warcraft’s extensive strategy game series. Alongside the bronze lady dragon, Chromie and Co., we protected our timeline from the mysterious Infinite Dragonflight, who tampered with the flow of time and were on the verge of rewriting Azeroth’s history.

The bronze dragons have always been present in WoW history, but never pushed themselves to the forefront. The reason for their reluctance dates back far in the past, when Ulduar’s Titan Keepers shared their power with five proto-drakes: Alexstrasza, Ysera, Neltharion, Malygos, and Nozdormu.

Nozdormu, the Titans and the Flow of Time

One of the five dragon aspects, the dragon Nozdormu has watched over the flow of time at the helm of the bronze dragonflight for eons. The supreme titan, Aman’Thul, once bestowed upon the Bronze Dragon Aspect the task of watching over the currents of time. The knowledge Aman’Thul bestowed on Nozdormu was more of a curse than a blessing. Through the titan’s eyes, Nozdormu saw his own dying day and all the terrible events that will happen in the future of Azeroth. In order to preserve the titan pantheon’s grand plan for Azeroth, Nozdormu is not allowed to share this secret knowledge with anyone.

Nozdormu’s journey
Learn more about Nozdormu and his mission in the WoW novel “Thrall – Dragon Dawn”. There was a reason for his long absence. The Bronze Dragon Aspect got lost in the timeline while chasing after the Infinite Dragonflight.
In World of Warcraft (buy now ) the Bronze Dragon Aspect didn’t play a major role for a long time. While Nozdormu protected the timeline, his consort Soridormi led the Bronze Dragonflight in the Caverns of Time. The Warden of Time only appeared in Azeroth when it was really necessary. In the vision of the Old God Yogg-Saron, we witnessed Nozdormu and the remaining Aspects give some of their power to create the Dragon Soul. After the War of the Ancients, Nozdormu allied with Alexstrasza and Ysera and blessed the world tree Nordrassil, which gave the night elves their immortality. Nozdormu was also present in the fight against Deathwing at the end of Cataclysm.

The Terrible Truth

In Cataclysm, the Guardian of Time broke the taboo for the first time and revealed a terrible secret to his brothers and sisters. Nozdormu spoke of his death: Like Neltharion and Malygos before him, he too will one day succumb to madness and lead the Endless Swarm as Murozond. His fall is the last great victory of the Old Gods. If you are not familiar with Murozond, you should definitely visit the three Cataclysm dungeons Hour of Twilight, Well of Eternity and End Times.

In said instances, our heroes accompanied Nozdormu through three stories, in which the supreme guardian of time showed us the dark visions of Azeroth’s past, present, and future. With the tragic death of Murozond, Nozdormu finally fulfilled the ancient prophecy of the titans who created the river of time to protect Azeroth from the dark forces of the void. In the Hour of Twilight, Nozdormu even sacrificed his entire power to destroy Deathwing once and for all.

Unlike other aspects, Nozdormu did not regret the end of the Dragon Age. Rewatch the scene from the cinematic at the end of Cataclysm. The bronze dragon looks relieved as the magical hourglasses shatter and time literally slips through his hands. At that moment an infinitely heavy burden fell from his shoulders. Perhaps then, Nozdormu hoped that by giving up his power, he could escape his own destiny and death. We must not forget that he committed a great sacrilege in retrieving the Dragon Soul from the alternate timeline. And although Nozdormu shattered the paths of time after the Cataclysm, his children found another way to manipulate time. The most famous was a young bronze dragon named Kairoz.
