This content would not be financially viable without the premium users. But we urgently need more supporters: You can help too!

Today appeared with Knights of the Mediterranean the already third DLC for Age of Empires 3 – Definitive Edition. The biggest innovation are two new civilizations, Italy and Malta. The architect of the Italians builds buildings for free, but very slowly. They can also field the Pope’s armed forces. The Maltese have strong defensive structures and their units will slowly heal themselves while standing still. As seafaring nations, both have bonuses for their fleets and, apart from the cool water, rely primarily on strong infantry. As usual, they bring special buildings, units and a truckload of new maps for their hometown.

Two game modes are also new: In diplomacy, alliances can be changed during the game, which in the previous game led to interesting matches and intrigues between the players. The second mode is aimed more at development and economy-oriented players: In tycoon mode, you have to build up a strong economy in order to win, without using the military. If you don’t like it so peaceful, you can also combine it with the well-known game modes.

In addition to 30 new random maps, the package includes eight so-called historical maps, which are also randomly generated but are based on the locations of historical battles on the European continent and have their own mission objectives. Eight European noble houses are added as neutral factions. Similar to the settlements of the natives, they can be won as allies via trading posts.

Knights of the Mediterranean is now available for €9.99 Steam and in Microsoft Store accessible. The release will be accompanied by an in-game event with cosmetic rewards that will run until June 27th and will be available to all players.
