Asus RT-AXE7800: New router with 6 antennas should achieve up to 7,800 Mbit/s

As part of the current Computex IT trade fair, Asus presented the RT-AXE7800, a new router with a striking design and initial key data.

In the past, Asus had already presented eye-catching routers with the ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 from the upper price segment (with eight antennas) or TUF Gaming AX5400 and the new RT-AXE7800 should join this ranks, although there is no price indication yet exists and many other details are still missing. Techpowerup.com at least found the new model and the look with the antennas folded in caught the eye, which is reminiscent of a Kaiser roll in the shape of a loaf.

The Asus RT-AXE7800 is a tri-band WiFi 6E router that, with its six antennas unfolded, is said to achieve a wireless transmission speed of up to 7,800 Mbit/s, which is also reflected in the model name. Channels with a width of 160 MHz, 1024 QAM functionality and the 6 GHz band are supported. According to the first pictures, there is a single 2.5 Gbit/s port on the connection side, which can be used either as a WAN or LAN port, and four Gigabit Ethernet ports, one of which can be a WAN port or can be paired with a second gigabit port (teaming).

As Techpowerup.com notes, teaming does not double the bandwidth for a single client, but requires multiple clients to provide any benefit and a matching switch, NAS, or server that supports teaming. There is also a single USB 3.0 port on the back, which is also where the power connector is located.

According to the report, the design with the “foldable” antennas is also expected for many other models in the future, since consumer routers that support the WiFi channels in the 6 GHz band are not allowed to have removable antennas due to regulations, which probably is not the case should apply to upcoming WiFi 7 routers. Meanwhile, there is no information about the market launch of the Asus RT-AXE7800.
