By the way, Final Fantasy 14: Auto-Logout is deactivated again
Half a year after the introduction of a rather unpopular feature in Final Fantasy 14, the function was switched off again: the auto-logout after 30 minutes of inactivity in the game. This in turn means that the tense situation on the game worlds of FF14 has largely normalized – good for the players!
end of May 2022, a few days ago, Final Fantasy 14 Patch 6.11a has been released and mainly brought buffs for various job commands in PvP. Especially the black magicians among you should be happy about more booms. But patch 6.11a not only brought PvP adjustments, but also deactivated one of the features most despised among veterans of online role-playing games after about half a year: the auto-logout after 30 minutes of inactivity. Joy! Because that means at the same time that the tense situation in the game worlds due to the high popularity of FF14 is finally over.
The history of auto logout
WoW fans have known the system for what feels like a thousand years and may be surprised that there are games without an auto logout. The automatic logout from the game worlds of Final Fantasy 14 was originally supposed to come with Endwalker in the MMO, but should even be brought forward in the meantime. Because if we rewind time a year, one or the other gaming fan will remember that WoW fans ran away to Final Fantasy 14. Among other things, this was due to the fact that popular WoW streamers paid a visit to the Japanese online role-playing game and took their fan base with them.
But the ongoing content drought on the Shadowlands servers has driven the MMO veterans in droves to more colorful and exciting realms. However, the operators of FF14 were not prepared for this. An upgrade of the server center had been planned for some time anyway, but the corona pandemic has driven manufacturing costs and delivery times for hardware components to dizzying heights. Just set up a few new servers, that wasn’t possible for Square Enix. And so, to regulate the suddenly enormously swollen game world queues, other and sometimes unpopular, sometimes dramatic measures had to be taken.
server help
Auto-logout came with FF14 patch 6.0, but before that the sale of all Physical and digital versions of Final Fantasy 14 have been temporarily suspended for weeks, test accounts could no longer be created, game worlds were partially blocked for character creation. All of this was done so that the paying subscribers could still play reasonably reliably. Nevertheless, the FF14 interest was also huge for the release of Endwalker at the end of 2021!
There may not be that much interest at the moment, so the auto logout is no longer needed. Square Enix developers state: “The automatic logout system introduced in 6.0 to relieve the servers has been removed. Players will no longer be logged out after 30 minutes of inactivity.” But one or the other upgrade of the server hardware will probably have taken place now – no reason, then, to predict the demise of Final Fantasy 14 (buy now €25.93) to sing about. The MMO is doing pretty well!
