MSI MEG 342C: the next monitor with Samsung's QD-OLED panel

from Andrew Link
The MSI MEG 342C is the next gaming monitor with QD OLED panel. It is in direct competition with the Samsung Odyssey G8QNB and the Dell Alienware AW3423DW.

After the Dell Alienware AW3423DW, MSI has the next monitor with a QD-OLED panel in its range and it hardly differs in the panel properties, as is to be expected. The same panel is also used in the Samsung Odyssey G8QNB. The MSI MEG 342C is thus a 34-inch curved monitor that has a radius of curvature of 1.8 meters (1800R) and comes into the gaming den with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The panel has a resolution of 3,440 x 1,440 pixels, runs at 175 Hertz, has a gray-to-gray response time of 0.1 ms, according to MSI, a contrast ratio of 1 million to 1 and a peak brightness of 1,000 candelas per square meter.

It wouldn’t be a gaming monitor if it didn’t support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). In this case, probably with an Adaptive Sync certificate from VESA. MSI also promises 99.3% DCI-P3, 97.8% Adobe RGB and 139.1% sRGB color space coverage. Due to the panels, which are similar in all models, the monitor manufacturers have to differentiate themselves from each other when it comes to the trappings. One is the design and the other is the additional equipment.

MSI promises a “dignified, elegant and mythical design” as well as MSI Gaming Intelligence. An integrated ASIC allows settings via the smartphone that affect the audio output, among other things. The Optix Scrope, Smart Crosshair, ambient light sensor, picture by picture and picture in picture as well as a KVM switch complete the offer. The presentation at Computex did not give any further details, neither on connectivity nor on price or availability. In principle, however, MSI will probably have to compete with the prices of its competitors. Alienware is selling its model for $1,300. As a first-party provider, Samsung will probably try to put together the most attractive price offer.
