Epic CEO grumbles about Apple’s App Store

The dispute between Epic Games and Apple continues: CEO Tim Sweeney has again criticized the monopoly of the App Store.

In an exclusive interview with the Financial Times he vented his anger: The App Store offered a “bad service” for developers. They are forced to offer their software at below-average prices. At the same time, they would have to accept “uncompetitive handling fees,” which unnecessarily inflated the price of digital goods, Sweeney said.

“Classic monopoly bond”

All of this is possible for Apple, among other things, because of its advantage at the hardware level. It’s a “classic monopoly bond,” according to the Epic boss. Apple makes smartphones, profits from them and deserves it.

But: After that, customers would no longer have an alternative to the App Store. This gives Apple an “unfair advantage over other competitors,” according to Sweeney. The group prevents other app store providers from competing with it and on devices owned by “a billion users”.

This is not the first criticism of Apple’s monopoly position by Epic Games. There has been a tense atmosphere between the corporations for years. The trigger was the ejection of Epic’s flagship game “Fortnite” from Apple’s App Store. That’s how it happened, among other things a lawsuit.
