Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard is progressing, but will continue into the coming year. Accordingly, a timely publication of the publisher’s game portfolio in Game Pass was not to be expected. However, following the postponements of Starfield and Redfall, the Xbox team is in dire need of new fodder for the service later this year. Now there are indications that some CoD titles could serve as gap fillers.

That’s why CoD could be coming to Game Pass soon

That happened: Several games from the Call of Duty series, including CoD Black Ops: Cold War and CoD: Modern Warfare, have popped up on the Xbox Game Pass deals. That means anyone who has a subscription to the service gets a discount on those games. Nothing unusual so far, but the action could be a hint that the titles will soon make it into Game Pass.

Role model Bethesda? If we go back, that’s exactly what happened with some Bethesda/Zenimax games. The titles first appeared in the Game Pass Deals and a short time later in the subscription service itself. Of course, that’s not certain and certainly not official, but don’t be surprised if we see some older CoD parts in the Game Pass soon.

Remember June 12: In less than two weeks, the big summer showcase from Microsoft and Bethesda will take place. That would be the ideal time for a shadow drop, i.e. for an announcement and a parallel publication of various Call of Duty games in Game Pass. The subscription service will definitely play a central role in the show again.

There is one limitation, because Sony still has a contract with Activision that gives them exclusive benefits for the next three CoD offshoots – including various content, bonuses and apparently an early beta.

The deal should also include that the games may not appear in a subscription service for some time. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is due out on October 28th for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, will not be playable in Game Pass at launch.
