Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm, hinted a few weeks ago that the studio would not be recasting iconic characters. The reason for this was the moderate success of Solo: A Star Wars Story, in which Alden Ehrenreich took on the role of Han Solo instead of Harrison Ford. But apparently Kennedy is now taking back some of her statements.

No replacements thanks to Solo

Two weeks ago, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy announced that no more popular characters from the Star War universe would be recast. The reason for this is the cinema flop Solo: A Star Wars Story. In Solo, the eponymous protagonist was recast and not played by Harrison Ford, but embodied by Alden Ehrenreich. His portrayal was for many fans not nearly as iconic like Ford’s interpretation of the character.

Lucasfilm has since kept the promise – for example, thanks to the latest deep fake technology, Mark Hamill was rejuvenated and was able to continue to play Luke Skywalker in the Disney Plus series mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett to play. Also in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Princess Leia was rejuvenated before the death of Carrie Fisher and even Peter Crushing was brought back to life as Grand Moff Tarkin – albeit before Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Lucasfilm makes an exception for Lando

In Solo, however, a different path was chosen. Han Solo and Lando Calrissian are the only two main characters to have been cast with other actors for Disney-era projects. Since this experiment failed so badly, it should stay that way. Kennedy had to recently revise their wordsbecause apparently there is still one Series planned with Donald Glovers Lando. However, the studio does not simply want to tell new stories with old characters, which also fits with Kennedy’s announced plans that Leaving the Skywalker saga behind.
