DFL signs football clubs for virtual Bundesliga
Esport tournaments in the Bundesliga
The DFL now requires Bundesliga clubs to take part in esports tournaments. The Virtual Bundesliga will take place from 2023/2024.
News
The organization German Football League (DFL) has decided that clubs in the first and second Bundesliga must also hold virtual tournament games in the future. Among other things, they should also set up your own esports team.
The so-called “Virtual Bundesliga” will be mandatory for all clubs from the 2023/2024 season to determine the “German Club Champion in eFootball”. Then every professional club has to have one Team of three to five playersa full-time employee with e-football responsibility, a main venue and the necessary technical equipment.
Anyone who fails to take care of this in good time must expect sanctions. However, these should be canceled independently of regular Bundesliga play. Exceptions are also possible if there is sufficient justification.
They then play against each other in the sports game FIFA (from 2023 under a new name as EA Sports FC), as Electronic Arts has been a long-standing partner of the Bundesliga. Only FC Bayern Munich has a partnership with the competitor Konami, which offers its own football simulation with the “eFootball” series.
the Virtual Bundesliga has been around for a long time, but so far on a voluntary basis. This will take place on June 4th and 5th, 2022 Grand Final in Cologne instead of a prize pool of 100,000 euros.
