Cyberpunk 2077 finally lets me go Blade Runner with this car mod

Instead of just driving, a mod finally lets us fly cars ourselves.

Trailers and preliminary reports on games can certainly awaken gameplay wishes in us, which unfortunately are not fulfilled in the end. The best example is Cyberpunk 2077 with its flying cars, which exist in the game but unfortunately we can’t use them ourselves. They only serve to enhance the scenery of the futuristic dystopia. But how lucky that there is still the modding community.

V finally ”drives” himself through the air

Those who no longer want to watch the flying vehicles in Cyberpunk 2077, but want to control them themselves, can finally do so thanks to Jack Humbert’s Let There Be Flight mod on PC. The mod we are about WccfTech discovered gives us full control of all the cars as we fly them through Night City.

A few extras on top: To make the flight a little more comfortable, the mod has a few practical functions. With the integrated in-world navigation, we can easily be guided to the next quests or to a self-chosen destination. Thanks to an audio hint, we are also warned of explosions, as the flying companions seem to be a bit vulnerable. But if things do get dangerous, a kind of quick exit will help.

Jack Humbert shows what the whole thing looks like in the following videos:

If you play Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, you can Download the Let There Be Flight mod via GitHub and install. It’s currently still in beta, so don’t expect a smooth flight. Unfortunately, the Blade Runner experience is not available on consoles.

While the controllable flying cars are probably more of a wish from us players, V apparently also has one of its own, although it may seem a bit strange: its own mango farm.

If instead of flying cars and V’s wish you are more interested in the first big DLC for Cyberpunk 2077, you should be interested in a leak that may provide information about the story, areas and missions.

A little dirt, a little dystopia and a rough society are things I like to give myself not only in games but also in movies. At the forefront: Blade Runner. But since I didn’t get to see Harrison Ford enjoying the benefits of flying cars in 1982, it was another film that introduced me to the future marvel of automotive engineering.

Hardly any film scene stuck in my head as well as the one from The Fifth Element, in which Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) jumps off a skyscraper and crashes directly into Korben Dallas’ (Bruce Willis) flying taxi. I just say “Big Bada Boom”. What followed was my enthusiasm for Blade Runner 2049 and, with Cyberpunk 2077, the desire to jet through the air in Night City with such a vehicle myself – which unfortunately didn’t work out in the end.

But cheers to the mod community for making the Let There Be Flight mod fun a reality. While I can understand CD Projekt Red’s decision not to use this type of locomotion – at least it can spoil the intended gameplay experience – but as a mod to make me feel a little like Blade Runner and The Fifth Element? I’m kinda there.
