There’s even an optional Mega CD addon dummy.

Nostalgics and anyone else who wants to relive the past can look forward to another retro console. The Sega Mega Drive Mini 2 was recently announced with 50 pre-installed games. According to reports However, the manufacturer is also planning a release for European and North American players. With October 27th there is only an official release date for Japan. It is planned that the console will change hands there for the equivalent of around 70 euros.

The Mega Drive Mini 2 is said to play both Mega Drive and Mega CD titles, for which an expansion module was required at the time. Also on board are some arcade ports and “mysterious new projects”. • Shining Force CD (Mega CD)
  • Sonic CD (Mega CD)
  • Mansion of Hidden Souls (MegaCD)

Alongside the console itself, Sega is releasing a Mega CD add-on to hint that even then it needed an expansion for the full experience. However, this is not required to be able to play the pre-installed mega CD games. Rather, it is a dummy. Nevertheless, a miniature CD of Sonic the Hedgehog is probably included with the expansion. Also a small cartridge for Virtua Racer is the Japanese product page included.

Sega is following its competitor Nintendo, which launched an SNES Mini after the NES Classic Mini. Sega’s Mega Drive Mini was released in October 2019 along with 42 pre-installed games. The successor sees the light of day three years after the first new edition. It remains to be seen when the device will appear in Germany.
