WoW Dragonflight: Talent tree preview for druids and death knights
Back to the roots, that is the motto of the upcoming WoW expansion Dragonflight, at least in relation to the talents of our character classes. They should get real talent trees instead of the reduced talent matrix that Blizzard introduced with Mists of Pandaria. What the new talent trees would look like was still open when Dragonflight was announced.
Talent trees as a “meaningful reward when leveling”
But now the WoW developers have published the first previews of the new talent trees. The druid and the death knight are the first. For all specializations of the two classes, there is already a first draft of the upcoming talent trees, which players can analyze to their heart’s content:
Both previews are only available in English so far, which is why we have translated the team’s commentary on both talent trees for you. The developers write about their concept for the druid:
“The Dragonflight Talent Update is a great opportunity to let the druid explore the flexibility that is inherent in him. In many ways, from Legion to Shadowlands, the concept of affinity anticipated a development we want to highlight here: namely, the ability to choose elements of different shapeshifter forms and roles. The idea behind this is now incorporated into a class talent tree, with paths linked to each specialization, and where deeper investment does more than the basic specialization buttons. Various utilities and crowd control abilities are scattered at optional points of each talent branch, as well as a central area easily accessible for each specialization. Our hope is that each spec can play in some sort of traditional way, where it can fill out the full path from the core talent tree, and then use a variety of different utilities, or a more customized way that digs deeper into the paths of others advances specializations.”
The WoW team explains the death knight:
“As we work on the Dragonflight talents, we’re exploring ways for the death knight to express themselves based on their choice of class talents. Each branch of the class talent tree is themed with a specialization, and as you progress down a path, you unlock more talents that may not previously have been available to your specialization, such as Empower Runearm, Will of the Necropolis, and Soul Reaper. Our goal is to create new and exciting opportunities for you to explore and play around with, while also having a rich and engaging core talent tree that you can customize based on your own goals.“
Druids are allowed to buff Mark of the Wild again
What fans should be particularly happy about here: The mark of the wild returns to the game as a raid buff. Mark of the Wild works similarly to the Warrior’s Battle Cry as it stands in Dragonflight, increasing haste and critical hit chance while reducing magic damage taken. So we want to know from you: Do you like the return of Mark of the Wild? And what do you think of the first drafts of the new talent trees? Write us your opinion in the comments!
