Eternights: RPG combines anime action and dating sim

Eternights: RPG combines anime action and dating sim

as Sony presented a new issue of State of Play last Thursday, viewers were showered with updates to well-known titles: new insights into Street Fighter 6, a new trailer for Final Fantasy 16 and Spider-Man for the PC. Sure, with the remake of Resident Evil 4 there was also a new announcement, but the original is already an old hand at more than 15 years old.

Nevertheless, the PlayStation presentation also delivered completely new gaming fodder and the Japanese role-playing game, among other things, can also be included eternity counting. The previously unknown debut title from Developer Studio Sai wants to combine an appealing anime style with banging action and a dating simulation.

Eternights instead of Tinder: Dating in times of a pandemic

When it comes to the look and the mixture of brightly colored anime action and dating options, who now thinks of the persona series thinks he hits the nail on the head. Like Jae Yoo, head of Studio Sai on twitter revealed, Eternights proudly wears the Persona inspiration: “I played Persona 5 in 2019, which convinced me to also play Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 FES. After that, I quit my job and started making a game inspired by those titles.”

An ambitious undertaking, because Persona 5 in particular is one of the best things that JRPG genre modernity has to offer. But the first trailer for Eternights shows that Studio Sai doesn’t want to produce a cheap copy: With real-time battles and significantly more action, the role-playing game already deviates from Persona’s turn-based combat system and the apocalypse setting isn’t part of modern Tokyo like we are out persona 5 (quite unlike Shin Megami Tensei).

Because at Eternights you must see the blazing flames of passion in the face of the looming Apocalypse ignite: Most of humanity has been transformed into fearsome monsters and while you are on your quest for a cure, you have to impress the flame of your choice.
