Asus ROG Chakram X: wireless gaming mouse with new Aimpoint sensor

from Claus Ludewig
The Taiwanese manufacturer Asus has introduced the new wireless gaming mouse ROG Chakram X. For the first time, the specially developed Aimpoint sensor is used for rodents, which should convince with the highest level of accuracy.

With the ROG Chakram, Asus has expanded its portfolio of wireless mice in 2020 with a particularly well-equipped model. It connects to the PC via the 2.4 GHz band or Bluetooth and offers, among other things, an analog stick with various attachments, a customizable, RGB-illuminated logo in the rear and interchangeable Omron key switches. The wireless mouse, which probably works with a modified Pixart PMW 3366, was able to convince in the PCGH test. Now the Taiwanese are launching their successor, the ROG Chakram X. A new optical sensor with up to 36,000 DPI and a polling rate of 8,000 Hz is used here.

New sensor and new joystick should inspire users

Asus is particularly proud of the sensor, after all it is the specially developed Aimpoint sensor, which is said to work very precisely with a CPI deviation of less than one percent. There is the option of using the rodent via USB cable or wirelessly via Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz radio. With the new concave, programmable joystick with four buttons, the gaming mouse should feel better than its predecessor. In addition, you can now swap out the switches and use either mechanical 3-pin switches or optical 5-pin microswitches. This extends the life of the mouse, making it more sustainable and environmentally friendly to use. The Chakram X offers a total of seven keys on which up to 11 functions for various PC games can be saved.

For power supply, the battery of the ROG Chakram X can be charged either via USB or wirelessly via the Qi charging station. It is still unclear whether the ROG Chakram X can only be supplied with power via the supplied USB-C cable or whether any commercially available USB-C cable can be used in principle. The Asus ROG Chakram X should last up to 114 hours with one battery charge. With the supplied USB cable, enough power for up to 25 hours of use can be recharged within 15 minutes. The Asus ROG Chakram X weighs 127 grams and is now available in stores, with the price on Amazon being the RRP of just under 169 euros.
