M2: Apple shows the next generation of processors
More power & efficiency
During the WWDC 2022, Apple showed the new M2 processors. The chips bring more performance with less power consumption and will be available from July.
News
Apple presented the 2022 Worldwide Developers Conference new processor generation before, which bears the name M2. The M2 chips serve as the basis for the new one MacBook Air and the new MacBook Pro and should perform better than the M1 generation in all respects.
The new M2 chip was developed specifically for the Mac and is based on the Second generation 5 nanometer technology. According to its own statements, the new CPU will 18 percent faster run, one 35 percent faster GPU and one 40 percent faster Power Neural Engine.
In addition, the M2 generation offers 50 percent more memory bandwidth compared to the M1 and up to 24 GB of fast unified memory. This is possible by using 25 percent more transistors than before. the improved energy efficiency of the M2 processors is also emphasized and should be guaranteed by numerous improvements in the chip architecture. In addition, the new generation 18 percent more multithreading performance Offer.
Apple also states that the CPU in the M2 should offer almost twice the performance with the same power consumption compared to the latest 10-core chips for laptops. M2 also features Apple’s next-generation GPU with up to 10 cores. M1 previously brought “only” 8 cores. With the same power consumption, M2 should therefore have a up to 25% higher graphics performance than the M1 reach, with maximum power consumption even up to 35% more power.
Apple confirmed that the first M2 chips will come with the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro in the July 2022 be delivered. For more information on Apple’s new products, read the Connect news ticker further.
